Hi all,
Airliners.net have experienced issues with special/foreign characters in names and text in general forever. The character issue would flair up and create a mess for crew who had to spend a lot of time correcting the issues manually. After the migration, the character issue started becoming a bigger problem which again was a nightmare to fix for all our crew and developers.
We have found a solution to this but it takes extensive testing on our dev servers (yes we have full dev servers up now) before we can push the fix live. It had affected a few different areas of the site before, so we want to be sure to test as much as possible before we send the fix site-wide. The great news is... we have a long term solution that will eliminate the character issue in full and instead of continuing to patch work the code, it's a permanent solution.
Our time line for testing and releasing this live is early January. Until then, I ask that you please be patient and know we are working on it. We will not be able to fix any character issues while we are in testing, so please be patient and wait for another update.
I do appreciate the cooperation on this and we hope to resolve this very shortly.

I guess I have to hold off using letters with commas, dots, and Icelandic letters, until you fix this, right?

Having formerly worked tech support for a company that produced marginal quality software, I can offer this opinion. I think Aero145 probably has it about right, but of course other languages have characters that we english speakers consider "accented". I would suspect that any letter that has any sort of squiggle, dash or dots along with it will probably cause some sort of issue. I could be way off base here, but my former company ran into problms with stuff like this because the software only supported the character sets that it was coded with, in our case American English, so inputs from other ASCII character sets like from special character on French and Spanish keyboards caused issues with visiual spew. Just my personal

Great news! I always had problems with the accent in my last name so I decided to take it off. Hopefully I will be able to put it back on
