Reject - No Comment!

Reject reason: quality, motiv, personal - !?!?

Quality - EOS 5D, lens: 24-105L IS, long exp. - 5 sec., file - RAW.
Motiv - This is some of the most unique picture of the helicopters. There is no any similar picture!
Personal - No coment!

What do you think about this?

Hi Ognyan,
very nice picture, as usual!  Smile
Quality looks quite good to me, for motive: There is a nasty, huge lens-reflection on the left side of the picture and I bet the personal comment was referring to that. Maybe you can clone it out, it would be a great addition to the db.

Hello Ognyan.

I agree with Florian - for me the primary issue is that large lens reflection from the light on the far left of the image. If you move your head above your screen so that you are looking down at an angle on to the surface of your monitor that will help you see it very clearly. Unfortunately I am not sure how easy that would be to remove with cloning, due to its size and the danger that such editing would be too apparent.

I do like the image - the rotor blur is great, as is the resulting reflection of the nav light. The long exposure time may have had an impact on the sharpness of the image though, if there was a tiny bit of blur (though on that point it does look pretty good). I do see some sharpening issues, which may have contributed to the quality issues for the screeners - there are areas of softness both towards the front and rear of the fuselage, and also slight jaggies in places, on the lines of contrast. As for motive, I am less certain. Maybe they did not feel comfortable with the top of the aircraft being lost in the dark. For me it is a striking motive, in tune with the somewhat menacing quality of the aircraft itself.

All the best.

Paul

Hi Ognyan,

I've to agree: a very nice photo which I'd like to see in the db.
That's why I had a go at it to remove that nasty lens flare:
Big version: Width: 1152 Height: 780 File size: 434kb
Re-edit

I think the result is not too bad; I also added a little sharpness and brightness.

The best result would be achieved by doing a completely new edit; if you'd like some assistance with that, don't hesitate to contact me.

Hope you will be able to get rid of that lensflare in your above posted Mi-24V shot, and we will see another sure candidate for Photog's choice.

Great work!

Cheers

Whatever Thierry

Ognyan appealed without consulting anyone and the shot was clearly worthy of addition. If you call that favoritism then any accepted appeal could be called that.

Oh, I guess it takes to be an ATI member to have pictures with lens flare accepted. No offense to Ognyan of course, his images are amazing. But it does make you wonder  scratchchin
Or am I completely wrong here?
