Your A.net "goals" For 2008

Wed Feb 13, 2008 5:31 pm

Hi All

Felt a light-hearted thread would be welcome.

So, what are your a.net goals for 2008?

Mine is finally getting to 1000 photos, only 57 to go Smile Will have taken me over 6 years of uploading to get there.

Cheers

To be honest Tim my goals are more related to what I can pick up on camera this year rather than what I can achieve on A.net. Still, I'd like to get an acceptance ratio of over 90% within the next few weeks (getting closer) and ultimately hit 100%, even if only for 5 minutes! If I never achieved either of these though I doubt it would bother me. The real fun bit is the getting out there and shooting great pictures part.

My airliners.net goal used to be getting to a 100 shots with 3000 average views. I've currently gone above those views already so I'll just want to get to 1/10th of what Tim wants . Just 4 more to go, of which I've already picked 2 for numbers 99 & 100.

All depending on the outcome of the TOU/TOS debate

Hi Tim,
Just a small goal to start with: I have some pics I like very very much sitting in the queue (Some exotic visitors of the security-conference at MUC last friday) and it would give me great pleasure to see these online...  Smile

I'd really like to pass the 500 pic-border this year (147 to go)  Wink and maybe the magic 1 Million views (I'm currently at 818,000)...

Cheers,

My goals are aircraft related. I have decided to get some close up and personal time with an F4U Corsair, up close photos of an F-22, and finally get a picture accepted of that Twin Otter that has been driving me crazy.

Hi All,
As a fairly new uploader to the site I would say my goal for 2008 would be to get to 50 pics in the database. I have 3 in there right now and they are all over the 3500 view mark. I know that sounds like a small goal to some of the photogs on here, but for a newbie it's a good number.  Wink

Goals:

I'd like to go back in time let's say 1999 and get out the good old travel list (VIP list)
a.) No hit counter.....
b.) more lean way for slightly imperfect pictures.....damn I am off again by 0.00000003 degrees

1.) A few more sunny days in Innsbruck.
2.) Meet some more fellow photographers from different parts of the world
3.) Have more time to spend at airports around this wonderful planet
4.) Non rev to some exotic places

5.) have a Management Team I can trust.....!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to get over my average number of views to over 1000 - currently managed to nudge it up to 972 so nearly there!  Smile

It's just a bit of fun, like reaching 100 images, 500 images, 1000 images, 1 million views etc.

Best regards,

Jim

My goals are a lot less lofty than Tim's... weather cooperating I'd like to have 100 pics in the DB by March 15 (the first year anniversary of my first acceptance). 14 more to go, almost there!

Hate to be a party pooper, but no goal here... Getting a bit more selective on what I upload over the last few years, which shows:
Big version: Width: 349 Height: 247 File size: 30kb

I'll just take things as they come. I won't go chasing planes, try boost statistics, visit a zillion airports, plan all 2008's airshows or buy more equipment. I'll just keep enjoying myself with what I have and do whatever pops up and fits my daily life schedule.

Got to agree on these:

Quoting AKE0404AR (Reply 7):
1.) A few more sunny days in Innsbruck.

Yep.... a gray and overcast INN isn't exactly interesting. Weekends before and after were great though...

4.) Non rev to some exotic places

I got some planned, with Kiev probably being the most exotic.

So, what are your a.net goals for 2008?

I don't have any big milestones coming up in 2008... I only recently reached 50 pix in the DB and I don't think I'll be getting to 100 this year.  Smile But, as long as I get some accepted and I maintain my 5,000+ view average, I'll be happy.

It would be nice to reach 500 in the DB (87 to go) but the way my pictures are going I'll be lucky to get to 415! Big grin

And a bit of peace of mind wouldn't go amiss. Still, 4 days off from tomorrow, and back to the Isle of Man and hopefully good weather. Might even get some M-reg shots worthy of uploading!

Ahhh, goals  Wink

In 2007 I finally got to some nice airports other than AMS and spent some good time with other photographers. At that time I also found out that I'm not the nerd I thought I was as it comes to aviation. (There are worse, far worse Big grin )

In 2008 I would like to continue on that road, get to 200 pics while maintaining an average view count of 3500+. However, to achieve that goal I will have to become less sloppy at editing because my rejection rate is at an all time low of about 40%, caused by a variety of editing errors and motive misjudgments.

High on my list is to fly some more exotic and classic planes and take lots of pictures to proof it.

AMS wise I will try to challenge bad weather and go out anyway, because in the past, experience learned me that I probably will come back with at least one pic that's worth looking at. It's the "Well, forget about the rain and let's go out anyway" part that is difficult.

Finally, Jurgen R. convinced me that I should start organizing my pictures because it's a mess and introduced me to Lightroom. I will try that and made already a good start.

And last but not least: Keep on having good fun with this great hobby.

Roel.

I'd also like to upgrade equipment at some point as well.

This year's goals: further improve my night shooting techniques and hopefully be more lucky weatherwise for the airshows I'd like to visit than I was last year.

A couple of goals for this year:

1. Am currently at 45 pics in the DB and i want to reach 50 atleast!
2. Keep up my view rate for my 45 pics at the current 29920 per photo!
3. Hit two million views for my photos.
4. Get lots of more cockpit shots, they are my favorite i have discovered.
5. Get a decent editing screen.
6. Travel travel travel.. more flights in my flight log.
7. Jumpseat somemore! Can never get enough of that.

Thats all till now

Visit more locations and get more accepted here. Obviously more sales wouldn't go a miss either! A new lens perhaps and some more airside time, definitely! Try and dig out some new spots at my locals I guess, if it's possible?! Hook up with spotting mates more often.

My goal? Learn how to use my camera!!

Last July I bought a 350D fairly cheap and brand new - had a bit of a dabble with it, bought a second hand sigma 70-300 and did RIAT with some success (hey, *I* liked the photos I came away with, even if no one on here did!  Wink ). Unfortunately, I then discovered a total lack of time to devote to photography and barely picked the camera up for 6 months.

Then, three weeks ago I was given the opportunity to replace the Sigma with a very cheap Canon 70-200 f/4 which usually is raved about on here, so I went for it a the price was too good to pass up - so now I have a fairly decent camera, a decent lens, and sod all knowledge  Smile

Call me foolish for spending the money, but my intentions were always good - now I just have to follow up on them! My photography experience is practically zero, but I have always been interested in it as a hobby and now I have that bit of extra cash to spend I can do it!

I'd also love to hit at least 50 this year. However, my current acceptances have been very conventional, despite a couple of fairly rare spots, so something less ordinary and garnering more views is what I'm after...  Smile

Going to LCY tomorrow or Friday, hopefully I'll have time to rectify that!

I actually just reached one of my long-time goals a couple days ago. I got a spot on the top of 24 hours section on the home page. I always thought that would be so cool and I finally did it. Now, the next step is to get number 1 for a day (I was first runner-up).  Big grin

Same here. This is probably my biggest goal. I have no interest whatsoever in quantity here. In other words, I have no interest in taking and submitting hundreds of photos from the same spot/same angle. I am always brainstorming ideas for new ways to put my access at the airport to better use and take as many unique photographs as I can. Always trying to mix it up. It's tough though. I have a lot of great ideas, but they don't always work out. My equipment sometimes holds me back. So I guess another goal would be to get the kind of equipment I need to be able to pull off the kinds of things I want to do.

Hook up with spotting mates more often.

Same here. I met up with some of the locals here at SAN, and I made a trip to LAS last month to meet up with the guys out there. Had a blast and I hope to continue meeting more people in more cities in the future. New scenery makes for better variety as well instead of the same traffic at the same airport taken from the same location etc.

They don't like sheep droppings?

No, they don't... they make the hills so slippery  Smile  Smile

PS: They would like hiking if they could use a helicopter to fly them to the top!

Best regards,

Walter

To get to 200 or 300 shots this year.

I'd rather shoot more often. Thats my first goal.

I always thought that would be so cool and I finally did it. Now, the next step is to get number 1 for a day (I was first runner-up).

The first time is great; that happened to me a few weeks ago with the BA 777 (the picture wasn't all that great; it was probably due to the aftermath of G-YMMM).

Hehe, my goal was to scan and upload all my worthy slides by May but after nearly 2 months of only doing 747's and yet having to start on the -400's I'm quite clearly not going to make that goal.  boggled

Apart from a.net I do hope to finally make it to Toulouse this year. I quit plane photography many years ago but I just can't officialy retire before having spotted in Toulouse  Smile
