Seems I Can't Get The Centering Right...

Thu Feb 14, 2008 7:08 pm

Hi all,
I just had the following photo rejected for uncenentered:

https://www.airliners.net/addphotos/rejections/big/20080214_3B-NAV_landing_FLO_anet.jpg

Problem is: I can't see what's wrong with it... (I'm thinking about appealing but I didn't want to waste the headscreeners time with an obviously uncentered picture)

Your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Florian,

Move it up in the frame about... oh, little under half an inch (or about 1.5cm). Just looks a bit low in the frame. At least, that's how I see it.  Wink

Hello Dan,
thanks for your post, but it made me even more confused...  Smile
I've just submitted the appeal, let's see what happens.

I just meant that, to me, it looked like the plane could be moved up in the frame slightly, by like half an inch or so.

Hi Florian,

I'm no expert, but I'll give it a try.
All though the picture is centered correctly, if you take quick glance, it looks like the aircraft is a bit low in the frame.
I think this misleading view is caused by the trees in the bottom part of the picture. More sky above the aircraft then below.

Regards,

Raoul

Yes, I agree the aircraft is a bit too low in the frame.

Looks a tad oversharpened too. Few jaggies showing here and there.

I have a rule that I use.

In Photoshop, set ruler guides to the centre of the image (horizontal and vertical). This will mark the absolute centre point of the image, and help you to crop it properly. It doesn't work all the time, but it is a little bit useful. I generally try to line up the fuselage with the centre where possible.

Raoul, that was exactly the statement I wrote to the headscreeners, the dark bottom kind of fools your eyes and makes the aircraft appear lower in the frame than it actually is.

Let's wait and see, if the appeal gets rejected as well I'll rework it and put it a bit higher in the frame.  Smile
