Can This Shot Make It?

Mon Feb 18, 2008 12:04 pm

I'd really like to upload this shot, but I'm struggling to cope with the bright highlight on the fuselage. I've tried to tone it down after adjusting levels, but it ends up looking "grey". This crop from the original .JPG (I do shoot RAW, so have some additional flexibility).

Can I get the colours looking right without the highlight completely blowing out? Appreciate any suggestions!

Hello Steve,
your picture looks too dark to me.
If you want, send me the original and I'll try my best editing it.

Cheers,

Try using the image-adjust-shadow/highlights tool

Quoting Sovietjet (Reply 2):

Fail.

This will result in a Editing rejection.

A properly exposed image should not need this type of manipulation. Learn to use curves.

Steve - your image is lacking contrast. Try adjusting via curves and levels.

Yes I know, I should have pointed out that .JPG is unedited.

My question is whether the highlight along the fuselage will cause the shot to be rejected? This is about the best I can do:

I think you should try to avoid sun angle at plane which can make result not great. Try to move somewhere to avoid reflect as a result you may get good result. I had the same problem last Nov in PHL

Steve -

Ditch the Adobe RGB and switch your camera to sRGB (I use Mode 1 on my D200s).

Shot looks halfway decent, but the color balance shows that shitty green/yellow Nikon color cast, I would use a custom White Balance to blue it up.

I give the shot 6/10, might make it, but the post processing could be improved to help it along.
