Queue Length

Mon Aug 11, 2008 11:05 am

Hello all

I'm quite new here, Uploaded first two pictures. Maybe bad ... I've done my best but if they would be rejected I would clear them or go and make some better ones.
If rejected ... I've read that the average accepr.rejection time should be few days. Now I wait over a week and nothing happens... is it normal?

Yes, waiting time is variable, presently at around 12-14 days.

At the beginning you only have 2 upload slots available. The more pictures you get accepted the more you can upload. And of course a rejection will reduce the aceptance ratio and reduce the upload slots again. It is pretty complicated.  Wink

I doubt you have 5899 photos in the queue with yuor email adress. Looks like somethings got wrong there  Wink

Good luck with your shots

I know  Smile It was said that it I have no photos in total queue.
But if all counters available at https://www.airliners.net/myphotos/index.main says I have nothing in the queue, nothing rejected, etc - and I'm unable to upload anything because upload engine says I used my slots - I feel it's at least strange.

Errmm, well 0 is indeed not too much Big grin

So that means you cannot upload any? I guess you've checked on the upload page. and there are NO in the queue? I bet you've checked that as well?
If that is the case, then something is wrong.

Send an email to: [email protected] they should know who to contact and how to solve that problem.

Patience is a virtue you will need here at A.net. I have not e-mailed the crew often during these years, but AFAIK most probably you'll never get an answer.

I wish you good luck,

From when you upload pictures it takes about 12 days before you hear anything at all. Then you will either get a rejection e-mail or an acceptance e-mail.

Don't e-mail the crew. Usually you won't get a reply. If these are your first two uploads you might be better off posting them here in the forum first to avoid dissapointment just in case they do not meet the criteria.

From what I understood though (maybe I'm wrong) he is saying that he has no pictures in queue (at least, that is what his queue status is saying) yet he can´t upload either (?).

Hey, I have to strongly protest here!!!  hissyfit
Sometimes emails remain unanswered but this is not intentional (at least not among the support crew); we do get a whole bunch of mails per day and sometimes one or another mail slips through. If that's the case and you don't hear from us within a couple of days, just send the mail again. As long as it's an honest request we'll do our best to help out and if we can't we'll tell you so.

Concerning your mail Lukasz I can tell you that it's been noticed and we're just about to find out what the problem is; as soon as we know we'll let you know.

Cheers,

Thierry

Got two rejections. Agree - there were not the best ones.

https://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...ilename=20080815_lst001_SU_LBI.JPG

Now I click "Rejected Phothos" button - I go on https://www.airliners.net/myphotos/rejects.main
And I read "Total in rejected database: 0" - but I have 2 rejected.

Another flaw? Maybe this is a 'newbie' flaw and after having first picture accepted the counters will start to work?

Since this thread deals with the queue length, I would like to give a shout out to the screeners for decreasing the queue another 2 days. Over-time shouldn't be the solution, but to those screeners working a little extra to decrease the queue a bit, many thanks! Your hard work is greatly appreciated!

I too appreciate the hard work by the screeners, doing this as volunteer is pretty amazing. However, the fact that the queue is getting shorter is not a good thing for the site! It's at 5000 approx right now (this also helps screening time too I guess), indicating that there is a drop in uploads. Other sites are right now at almost 8000 in their queue and this can only mean two things 1) Photogs' are getting more and more selective at what they upload (it was at 6500+ not so long ago) on a-net or 2) Some photogs' are not uploading on this site anymore, which is for sure not a good prospect for the future

Uh, I might not be getting all of what you are saying but it is the best thing for the site.A lot of uploaders of this site. A lot of people stopped uploading because of the llllloooooonnnnngggg queue, but now it is down to 8 days it is a good thing.

Thanks goes out to the screeners.

What I'm saying that despite the screeners are doing a great job, the number of uploads has decreased substantially. Before we would have 7000 in queue and a screening time of 14 days, now it's 5000 and 9-10 days. Yes, the screening time is much faster, but this might be also because of the decrease in uploads. And if indeed there is a pattern of less and less uploads, that means less shots will be added to the db, and this site's most important feature are the photographs.
just my 2c, but IMO it's something that should be addressed by managment

Yes we are getting fewer uploads than before, that is no secret.

Obviously the problems of the past months + long queue are a reason.

What we as screeners hope to do is get the queue back to 2-3 days. Hopefully people will slowly come back.

What you are noticing is the number of uploads remaining constant while the screening queue is being shortened. In other words, while the time in the queue is being decreased, the upload rate is the same, therefore there is a lower number of total uploads in the queue. With that said yes, as Tim confirmed above, uploads have decreased over the past few months.

I noticed this morning that the queue is at 4300! I'm sure the screeners have been woriking their butts off and screened A LOT but I had never expected to have 700 pictures less in the queue in 24 hs!

Tim, I for sure think it's a great start  Smile
Having the screeining time in just a few days will IMO help to get more uploads, especially by new uploaders that have been put off by a 14-day wait to see their first shots screened. Tim, For a.net's sake, I hope this works  Smile
And thanx for doing this stressful job of screening/dealing with the not-so-happy community all for free!

Tim, just a big thanks to yourself and all the photo screeners for doing such a great job. It is a non paying job and the staff who work for a.net do not get paid for their hard work. They put in hours and hours of their own time doing this and it is appreciated.

Please pass on my thanks to all involved.

I'll chime in and say that the screeners are doing a great job, but at the end of the day, I am now at the stage where I wonder why the queue length is such an issue with so many people... Priority screening (in my experience) ALWAYS works (when justified), and for an everyday (albeit beautiful) shot of, let's say, a BA 767 with 100+ photos in the d/b, why are people so worried about whether it's online in 3 days or 30. (please note that both are extremes which, as far as I remember, never happened.)

Cheers.

I wonder if that's true or whether the lower uploads-per-day were actually caused by the queue length - as in people's upload limits had been reached because the older uploads were still stuck in the queue. How does the number of photographers look compared to last month, and the photos per photographer in the queue?
