Looking For New Screeners

Sun Aug 17, 2008 3:13 pm

Hi All

We are currently in the process of hiring new screeners. The major website problems are now behind us and screening is working 100% again and we're in the process of bringing the queue down. To ensure we can keep it low in the future we are looking for 2 or more people to join us in the coming months.

We will be hiring you for a training period during which you will be taught the ropes. After that period we'll either part ways if we think it's not going to work out, or make you a full screener after which a monitor will be supplied to you to be used for screening.

We are looking for long term commitment. Screening will take abut 30-45 minutes of your day on average (minimum). Most screeners of course spend much more time Wink

If anyone is interested please send an email to headscreeners@airliners.net

The email should contain the following

real name
username
age
link to your photos
short description of your experience in photography
a short motivation on why we should choose you

Deadline for applications is august 31st.

Looking forward to some responses, and please post any questions here.

On behalf of the screening team
Tim

Very good idea Tim.

But maybe can you give us some more information about what you want from the new screeners
Minimum age?
Minum number of pics in DB?
At least xx- year active in aviation photography?
Some information like that........

I am very interested in helping Anet forward, but if I have just a little feeling of wasting my time, by emailing the sceening team, I won't do that.
Speaking myself; I am a photographer since 1988, with 3000+ pics, waiting to get scanned and edited for uploading, but I have just 6 pics in the DB  Wink
If you only need some help by selecting the "garbage" from the rest of the uploaded pics or really do good qualified screening is quitte a difference.

I hope you understand what I mean.

There are no hard requirements. Obviously we're looking for people who are familiar with our standards and have high acceptance ratios.

Some screeners that started with us had 30 years of experience, some had only 2-3 years. There's no rules to the making of a great screeners.

Forgot to add something.

We cannot accept applications from people working for competing websites.

Tim, I'd be careful about 'discriminating' applications.

Woman play golf too.  Wink

Please define 'competing' and not 'complimentary'.

Johan's website was a 'private' website, wasn't it?

It isn't now.

Tim, you should take discrimination seriously.

eg: Airteamimages / photo.aero / jp / airplane-pictures

What are you really saying?

Which of the above need not apply.

The standard monitor is sent out once a screener has got through the period of training.
New screeners are mentored by a more experienced screener taking them through a few batches, generally talking them through together using Skype which gives a good grounding, sometimes even by two screeners with the trainee in a three way talk. This in itself is a way to establish the correct quality levels. They are then closely monitored, particularly by the Head screeners but by us all to a lesser degree.
If you have your images screened by a trainee, you are informed and are encouraged to appeal if you disagree with rejections or, less likely, acceptances  Smile

One issue that has not been mentioned......
It would not be difficult to find competent photographers to screen but a sound general knowledge of aviation is also important as you would be expected to screen images of any type of aircraft, not just what may be your speciality.

Under competing websites we understand all photo databases that are set up like a.net, JP, PP and all the smaller sites. Any other sites, commercial sites, spotting groups, personal sites etc are fine.

Really we dont want to discriminate, anyone can apply

I think it's too late for most of us who were fed up with everything to return to uploading.

But good luck future screeners, you'll see some interesting photos....  Wink

Personally speaking, I had stopped uploading for a good while but I have put a few through the queue in the last couple of weeks and I will continue to upload occasionally.

I remember these e-mails, and indeed also with the acceptance e-mails there was a kind of apology because it had been accepted by a screener-in-training. But I have never been so unpolite to appeal an accepted shot  Smile

I wish the new screeners best of luck!

Best regards,

The sole purpose is for uniformity between all screeners. I think that is the main reason. I may be wrong.

Hi All

We have selected 2 new screeners out of the application we've gotten so far.

Due to the time involved in training we are only adding 2 people now. We are most likely adding 2 more people in 1-2 months from the appliactions we've gotten

Thanks

We're still accepting applications, but we've decided to add 2 people immediately because of the training involved. Juts a bit of fasttracking. After the deadline ends we will be selecting more people so please keep the applications coming in!
