Hi,
IMO, the bottom of the aircraft is a bit dark (but i'm not sure of this). Otherwise everthing looks fine to me.

I have an identical shot where focus is on the winglet instead of the window frame-- do you think that one would be better?

Cheers!

Personally I would say: set the focus to the winglet instead of the window. But I am no pro, it is just my personal impression.

Personally, I love it. But post the other one with the focus on the winglet so that we may compare.

Okay, here's the alternative one, with focus put on the winglet instead of the window frame.

Will this one make it or will I see a motive rejection for the clipped tail?

I'm not sure about motive, the way over-blown background, or the dead bugs all over the place (I already cloned the bigger ones off the propeller cap...hope that's not forbidden), but I like this one and would like opinions:

http://www.jameswashere.net/temp/forums/DSC_4045_candidate.jpg

In addition to normal pre-screening opinions on this one, are potentially identifiable faces (no opportunity to ask for permission) acceptable?

Hmm... I'd say that OK for uploading, but don't know if you will get something in the likes of a BadPeople rejection.

No, just don't tell anyone  Wink (assuming you made it virtually impossible to discover it).

My turn. I'm having a hard time deciding which of the 2 shots below I should upload. Both will give me a double-rejection.

You've got jaggies, especially on the stripes, and the saturation looks a little too high (just my opinion). They're also fairly common scenes, so they're likely to get very close scrutiny.

I tried to respond to your PM, but apparently the most basic membership level doesn't allow that. To my eyes, the edit you shared looks great. I hope it makes it.

Don't think you will get a people rejection, crew like pilots etc are OK.
But it's also a bit soft around the reg and titles and some jaggies which might be worse with additional sharpening.
But I do like the shot  Smile

Thanks for your help, in the end I submitted this edited version of the photograph.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/2847333244/sizes/o/

By the way, this is probably a very silly question however is there a link explaining the manipulation rules regarding editing photographs? I have searched but can't find anything mentioning what kind of editing is and isn't allowed, which is making me wonder if my editing will be acceptable and within the rules.

Many thanks,

Hi!

Actually, a post-screening: this one was rejected for colour only:
http://sokolniki.biz/20080911_N39343-SFO-2008-08-30-DSC_8466.jpg

I am still trying to learn to see colour casts: any advice on which colour is off?
Much appreciated!

Very slight green cast.

Be careful about uploading again though. This may have gotten rejected ONLY for Color, but it is quite soft, especially up front. I may also be inclined to recommend you move the aircraft up EVER so slightly in the frame.

Zero chance. What are you trying to show here?

I have noticed you like to ping in on these threads and comment on other folk's shots. Don't you find your comments hypocritical?

And, out of curiosity, do you have any shots in the database? Make sure you have YOUR bases covered before criticizing someone else's work.

Hi, everyone!

I'm back for more pre-screening!

I feel I should take advantage of the short queue and try to get some more shots uploaded.

I'm unsure about these because of their quality and some other issues. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Royal Air Maroc - how is the motive? Is sharpness ok? Anything else?
Big version: Width: 1280 Height: 853 File size: 841kb

US Airways - Is the quality sufficient? Too sharp? Anything else?
Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 683 File size: 528kb

American Airlines - I know this is backlit but I decided to try it anyway since it's an uncommon motive for JFK. Anything else wrong?
Big version: Width: 1200 Height: 800 File size: 689kb

Air India - Is the motive ok? I tried to include all of the left MLG but had to cut off the engine. If I crop before th engine I cut off the airline name. Any tips?
Big version: Width: 1280 Height: 853 File size: 825kb

Thanks a ton!

Air Berlin tail might be a bit too sharp.

Condor might be a bit oversharpened on the fuselage titles at the front and at the tail.

The reason I cropped like I did was to make the aircraft more centered. I figured making it look centered would take preference over actually cropping closer. What do others think?

Hi TIS,

Royal Air Maroc - The red line on the rudder and the stripes around the rear door look a bit jagged. I see your point on the cropping. You might even want to move the plane even farther to the right. In my (limited, I admit) experience with A.net centering is critical.

US Airways - Looks a bit jagged - the flag on the tail, the leading edge of the starboard wing and the stripe on the wing root.

American Airlines - I don't know about the lighting, but I like the shot for all the details that you can see as well as the reflections.

Air India - The motive on this one does not grab me. For one thing, I find myself wishing you showed the whole engine. The upper door also looks quite jagged.

I personally would prefer the shot if the front portion of the fuselage were in focus. A fantastic shot nonetheless!

Quoting Othic (Reply 44):

Haven't you already posted these in a previous thread and got help with them? Even so, I think the first two aren't up to standard due to the overexposed sky "bleeding" into the aircraft.

If that is your final edit, there's no chance. Re-size to 1024x683 and it should make a difference. An impressive lineup!
