Photo Quality Help

Tue Sep 09, 2008 12:29 am

Having spent all weekend at a local airshow with my fairly newish Point and Shoot camera, I believe I finally managed to take a decent picture which may be good enough for the tough standards of A.net however it most certainly requires some kind of editing to improve it. I'm useless with photoshop however I did give editing a go. Will this picture even stand a remote chance here?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Dave

Capture looks good enough. I would begin by resizing it. Your ratio is a bit off. Try the old stand by 3 to 2 and try 1024 wide. Center the aircraft a little and use some more USM. You should be there. As always when you shoot from directly beneath the aircraft you have some light issues as some areas are dark but give it a shot.

Dave,

The sky (especially at the top) and the dark side of the top wing look a bit grainy as well.

Hey, many thanks for the pointers. I didn't notice the grainy sky until you pointed it out Mjgbtv. Do you think it could be saved?

NIKV69, I'm seeing if I can resize it and adjusting the ratio, etc etc, however what does USM mean? I'm a photoshop n00b  Smile

Once again, thanks for the prompt replies guys,

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

I think a noise reduction program could help with the grain without hurting your detail significantly.

Just spent the past few hours re-editing and I think the aircraft might be abit off centre to the left. Rubbish! Any how, is the general quality/sky any better than the previous attempt? I think I may have accidentally not saved it at the highest quality.

Thanks in advance again,

Unsharp mask. How you sharpen the image.

Hours?  crazy

There is a bit of dead space to the upper left. I would also crop a little tighter. Subject could use some more sharpness. Are you using the magic wand tool and deselecting the sky when you sharpen? Sky looks a little weird to me.

I tried to 'heal' the entire sky however I don't think that kind of editing is allowed, not that it matters as it didn't work. I tried sharpening the picture but perhaps I went abit over board? When it comes to centering the aircraft in the middle of the picture, do I judge it by the wings or the fuselage as it never quite seems to be in the middle.

Anyhow, thanks for the help, I doubt I'll ever get there but it won't kill me to keep trying  Smile

Why did you even bother with the sky?

On this monitor looks ok. Need my notebook though.

Hmm this one is a pain in the arse, but looks like your ok as far as it being centered. These shots drive me nuts to center.
