The titles on the fuselage looks a little soft, in my opinion. Other than that, it looks pretty much okay.

Thanks Varun - I just don't to over cook the sharpening.

I agree with Mark - overall it has a fuzzy look to me.

The forward fuselage area, the nose especially (up near the flightdeck windows) looks quite soft.

What did the original image look like? And what did the processed image look like before a.net JPEG compression got to it?

Maybe try some high-pass filter type sharpening to give it a bit more sharpness without introducing too much jagged edges.

I also suggest that if the original image is sharp enough, that you try uploading a larger size photograph. That can help with planes that have fine-detailed graphics like these Air India planes.

Regards,
Chris.

Thanks for everyone's input. It seems the more I ask, the less I know!

I can up the sharpness and see what happens and use selective sharpening around the other areas.

If anyone would care to share any sharpening routines, I would be interested to hear these.

I actually did an edit last night:

Here's the original:

and here's the edit:

I worked on the nose windows, the titles and the windows behind the cockpit. What do you think?

Sorry for the delay.

On a full size image - duplicate the plane to a new layer twice. For one of the layers, use high pass filter in Photoshop. Set it to something like 3px. Change the blending mode of that layer to soft-light. Merge the two duplicates together

Resize the image down to 1024x683px as normal - use smart sharpen at something like 45%, 0.3 (lens blur setting chosen). Now you can play around with these ideas a bit. I think that might yield a bit more sharpness.

The new edit is soft in the middle (over wing)

Thanks for the all the replies. If I may, can I reply to the most recent contributions a bit later as I'm not too chipper at the moment!

Best wishes, G-CIVP

Spiderguy252 - your 'original' looks worse than my original. Could be my screen. I'm at a loss as to what to conclude but I appreciate your efforts with the re-edit.

Cpd - No need to apologise; I've been out the loop as well. I think my resizing process may be to blame as I tend to use the 'save for web' option to compress the image down rather than resizing in PS. I will explore your layering method detailed above. As you indicate, playing around with different methods may yield results.
