Color Issues With Nikon D80?

Mon Jun 01, 2009 1:02 pm

A majority of my rejection reasons in the past year have been due to color issues that I have been having with my Nikon D80.

I've heard Nikon has been known for their vibrant colors and their infamous "Nikon Blue" sky. However I was recently using my fathers new D700 with my 80-400mm lens and I noticed a very vast difference in color between the two cameras.

For example:

D80 Color on the same day.

D700 Color on the same day within an hour of the D80 shot.

I'm curious to hear if others with the Nikon D80 have been experiencing color issues with their camera and if so how have you fixed this issue without photoshop color changes?

It would be better if you could provide two sample images of the same scene taken at the same time with similar settings, the sky has different hues in different areas depending where the sun is relative to your shooting angle.

There is an evident different in the colours but it is hard to tell what is down to the camera and what is a result of the different in the hue of the sky.

I would say the D200/D80 tends to produce a blue and or yellow cast. If you don't set your white balance manually you can apply a color correction of 3,-3,2 in Photoshop, this will take care of the color cast for you in post-processing.

I don't subscribe to the Nikon gives you a blue cast phenomenon. Set your white balance to sunny and warm it up a little. Takes about 5 seconds and fixes the problem. Your camera has a lot of buttons and controls. Use them. Not to mention PS lets you fix the WB too if you don't shoot in jpeg  biggrin
