Tim De Groot - Departure From Crew

Sat Feb 06, 2010 1:00 pm

Hi all

I would like to inform you that Tim has decided to call it a day with his screening duties therefore ending his 6 year association with the Airliners.net website.

His decision was due to various issues which included lack of available free time to devote to the site. Over those 6 years he has devoted many hundreds of hours of his own free time to help out. Tim not only screened but devoted a lot of time behind the scenes.

Tim has promised to continue to support the site with the uploading of his great images.

I am a little sad to see him leave, persuade him to stay I did, but he has made up his mind.

Regards

Gary Watt - Granite

I'm very sad to hear the news. Tim has been a huge help to myself and the community by being one of the more active screeners in the forum, and by offering valuable help in private.

Tim, if you're reading this, thank you for everything! Thanks for all the time you have given, from screening our images to offering valuable help to others. Good luck to you! I llook forward to seeing more of those amazing shots.

Very sad to see Tim leave

Not only a talented photographer, but also a person always ready to help, not forgetting his personal involvement for this site. Looking for new challenges after 6 years is quite normal and healthy

Thanks for everything Tim and good luck in your other life !

Though we never met, nor communicated, your photography has been an inspiration to me and I'm sure many others.
By pushing the envelope, so to speak, with what is artistically acceptable a lot more unusual photos are now seen.
Good luck for the future and keep those photos coming.
Just don't get frustrated by the screening process.

You know how sometimes you go after a certain shot because you've seen photographers you admire do it? I'm sure many of us have been trying to shoot planes in the sunset / sunrise like Tim's trademark Amsterdam images.

And a big thanks from me too for your screening work, Tim. Your dedication has helped us all, and I'm grateful for that.

Best of luck!

Tim ... sorry to see you leave the screening team. Your work served as an excellent example to countless photographers on the site and was always something for the masses to admire and strive to achieve. Hopefully you will still contribute to the site. Sorry I missed you the last time I was at AMS, maybe next time.

Enjoy!

Tim, I regard you as the best aviation photographer from AMS and one of the best aviation photographers in the world. I took your pictures as an example to improve my own work. I think a.net owns you a lot and if they don't throw you a party, you got a bad deal!

Agree Peter, totally agree. I first came to this site in the "olden days" and Tim's name goes all the way back to the halcyon days of airliners.net. He has stuck with the site through every high and low it has experienced and emerged each time with his head held high.

To those who have been associated with this site since its conception it is sad to see a crew member such as Tim leave.

Tim, we haven't always agreed but you have always had my respect. Your images are among the more instantly recognisable here and your forum persona is one I am envious of. As a relative youngster yourself I trust you'll wear the "old" badge we're awarding you with pride. You have served this community in an exemplary manner, you will be sorely missed.

I hope that you'll one day visit Australia, I would happily shout you a beer any time.

Enjoy your retirement "old" fella.

Hi All

Thanks for all the warm words, I appreciate it.

Things change and I no longer had the time and commitment to work 15 hours a week or more on the site. Hopefully I can go to the airport a little more often now.

I had my ups and downs as a screener here during 6 years but I look back on it positively. I lobbied hard for a more creative direction for the site and feel I (and others) have made some headway in that direction. Looking at the top shots is more rewarding now than it was 2 years ago and I am happy to have played a part in making that happen.

Being a screener, particularly a headscreener, isnt always easy. Particularly when you communicate on the forum a lot you are in the spotlight and making radical changes brings a lot of negativity too which was not always easy to deal with. During many crises, particularly during the last years, at a.net I would often be up late at night trying to apease the situation - that part of being a (head)screener I will not miss.

So I guess what I want to say is give the screeners a break every now and then. They mean well even if it doesnt always look it when your shot gets rejected or someone else's rule breaking shot gets accepted.

A big thanks to those who were always so supportive both on the forum and in private.

I wish the current crew the best of luck.

Cheers
Tim

Remember that creative image - that first one, the plane flying over the approach lighting. You get a lot of heat directed at you over that - but in the end, it probably had the right effect. I was dismissive too at first, but looking back - it was the right thing to do.

There are some wonderful creative images appearing at the moment.

Today I stumbled on a group of new recruits who received a tour through the various facilities and spotted one very familiar face in the middle..............
Tim, what the f... are you doing here ? "I work here he says"..............

Tim has joined the Fokker family and thus became a colleague of mine.
I am afraid that with all the new stuff coming up he will be facing a monumental task though.
Then again he proofed to be up for a challenge
Good luck as Fokkeriaan Tim.
