Hi All,
I'm no photographer but would like to know what your thoughts are on the Fujifilm FinePix F300EX, I just want it for work to carry in my flight bag and try to get some good cockpit shots and other interesting things that I happen to come by. I've always found shots difficult with the varying light from the cockpit windows but don't want to carry a big SLR around. I was hoping the 15X optical zoom might allow for more options.
Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

If you use the manual settings and avoid using digital zoom the results should be acceptable.

Most digital cameras, even the consumer compacts, produce very good images these days. Assuming you're going this route also because of the flexibility offered by the zoom? The only suggestion I would add is taking a look at some Micro Four Thirds and maybe consider whether they might be able to be an adequate compromise as a substitute for a DSLR system. A bit bulkier than the consumer compacts, not quite as large as DSLRs and offer very high image quality. I'd say venture down to Wingshing's in Mongkok and do some comparison shopping, take some sample shots with the store cameras and do a bit more research. In the end it all depends on what your priorities are. If you end up going with a Lumix but stop carrying it because it turns out to be a bit too bulky for convenient carry, you may have been better off with the Fujipix after all.

Thanks for the replies, I had a G11 but the missus lost it, thought it was good but a tad bulky, so that's why I thought I'd go a little smaller and leave it in my flight bag, at least it won't get lost. I'll keep looking.

A Leica M8 or the full frame M9 are fantastic...in fact the M9 is about as good a camera as you can buy..any type of camera.
