I am going to be around SNA for work next month—did a Google search but did not find a decent listing of where to take some photos. Any suggestions? I am willing to drive up to LGB as well.

Off of Red Hill there is an ibusinessl park where you can shoot through the fence. It's hidden among the bushes but there is a small cut out that gives you access. You will be able to get aircraft lining up and starting their takeoff roll.

In the same area there is a very small mound of grass that will let you catch arrivals on short final but is made challenging by the high bushes.
You can see the business park on goolge maps just opposite the main terminal basically from the 405 to the start of the runway.

RE: SNA Spotting
I've done some decent shooting from the Red Hill Av. overpass over Interstate 405. Most of the bridge has fence along it, but if the north and south ends offer a view of approaching aircraft provided you've brought a telephoto lens. Note that the light will not work until the afternoon.
