Tripod Mount Rings For Canon Lenses

Hi,

I just realized that I lost the tripod mount ring for my Canon 100-400mm lens. It must have fallen out of my camera bag on a recent spotting trip. It seems as if they are sold as pricey spare parts by Canon (180 $).
When trying to find a used one on ebay I came across the replicas from Asia.
Has anybody ever used one? It is well-known fact that Canon charges a premium for accessories but the price difference is more than significant.
Also, is it correct that the EF 70-200L 2,8 uses the same mount ring (B(W)) as the 100-400?

Having never lost mine i've not had any experience of them, however i know of people that bought after market asian versions of the 70-200F4L foot and also replacement feet for the 300F2.8 and they have all said that while they aren't quite as good as the canon original they work and do what they should do.

I'd say buy one, if it isn't up to scratch then sell it on ebay or send it back and then buy the canon!

So that's confirmation about that one. Maybe you should just buy a 70-200 2.8 II and share the collar

Where abouts in Germany do you live? From your photos I think Hamburg area? I'll probably be in the area in two weeks and have a spare mount (my lense was stolen).

@ Peter: I live in the West, the closest airport is Düsseldorf. Not too far away from the Netherlands actually.

If the weather is favorable and the insurance company have paid out by then I might give DUS a call on sunday. It's been a while since I've been there.
