Screening Delay

Thu Aug 28, 2014 9:14 pm

Just a note to all photographers that we are currently experiencing issues with our screening tools, so there is a hold/delay in the screening process.

You may see some images being added here and there as we assist the developers with testing a fix to the problem. We will let you know when normal screening resumes.

Those of you requesting priority screening, there may be some delay in adding these images also.

Thanks for your patience as we work through this issue.

Thanks Manny. If anyone else doesn't mind us using their images, please reply to this thread.

Note: you might 'loose' a few images, which means they will need to be uploaded again once the site is back to normal. Please do not offer up your images if this is a problem for you. Thanks!

As you know from experience, the screeners are in the dark with regards to technical issues, we only know something is up when the tools don't work, and it wouldn't be appropriate to speculate.

I have a full queue spread amongst the next 8 days of screener work. I really don't mind having my images used for testing. If anything is lost after acceptance it can be a quick reupload.

Just go easy on my images

Wow that was quick. One image tested and both the screening and upload emails came across. Looks like everything worked on that one. Linked to my images under my name and everything.

Thanks!

A total of four photos accepted so far. One never got uploaded (US Airways/American Airlines A321 being the one that got lost).

Seems like there probably is still an issue but working 75% of the time is not too shabby

What about Appeals Queue? Could this be a good test for that? I have one in the appeals queue that maybe, if a HS is feeling generous, could look at it for me?

(hopefully the reject buttons are broken too and any button selected results in an acceptance  footinmouth  )

Well my only remaining question now will be if the image was test screened and accepted and never showed up will we have to go through the queue process again? Or will it be fished out from the pool and added right away like they did last year?

Thanks to those who have volunteered. if one of the volunteers could collect a list of volunteers to date and post in this thread their photographer name (i.e. the name that appears on the copyright banner on the image) that would assist us as that is how we find images in the queue.

Please note that if your image is screened and doesn't add, then you will have to re-upload and wait for the normal screening queue. If it does add, then good news for you!

Thanks for your patience.

That part we are not sure of and there is a high chance that ones that have been screened and accepted that don't show up in the database will probably need to be uploaded once things are working again, This is the risk we are taking and why we are asking for a small number of volunteers who are willing to participate with images being screened.
If your images are being screened best to keep a note of the rego's so you know which ones have been screened and accepted and ones which were accepted and don't show.

alevik: No problem! I don't mind having my pictures used and there are plenty more sitting on my hard drive ready to reoccupy the open queue slots I now have

Another 2 came through around an hour ago and worked fine. So the issue with screening seems to be pretty sporadic (1 issue uploading out of 6 screened).

Other issues I have noticed on the site during this timeframe have been intermittent issues seeing the "User photo albums containing this photo" below an image that is known to be in members albums, and sometimes an image or thumbnail not showing up unless you refresh the page.

Hi guys,

I mistakenly counted Vik, as he said that he doesn't have any shots currently in the queue. Also, we can add Craig L. Baldwin and Ryan Coulter to the list.

So now the current list is:

Manny Gonzalez - Thrust Images
Len Schwartz
Stephen Duquemin
Thiago Trevisan
Amrit Kannan
John Padgett
Chris Gimmillaro
Craig L Baldwin
Ryan Coulter

Edit: I just got an acceptance email but the picture has not showed up on the database yet.

So far on the test screening one accepted and in the database, another accepted to the database but is lost in the ether. I will upload the lost image once things are working again.

Overnight (for me in the Eastern Time zone) I had two more of mine processed. One uploaded and the other has vanished. So back to a 75% functioning properly (6 out of 8).

Amrit,

The screeners told us that it is likely they are gone forever, never to re-appear. So re-uploading is in order.

To me, it looks like screening single images is far more successful than any batches. If a batch is screened, some will be lost almost 100% of the time. My last few accepted screens all showed, none lost. Maybe worth while knowing...

Just did, now the accepted one from yesterday (that never showed up on the db) is in the queue again with a note to screeners about the issue with it.

Yeah, I'm going to throw the ones that were accepted without uploading back into the queue with a comment to screeners as well.

Rejections are coming through with the reasons showing up. So looks like the issue (on the photographer end) is a sporadic lack of uploading after acceptance.

Just to try and answer a couple of questions.

Quoting kann123air (Reply 38):

We don't know for sure that the images that don't add will be gone forever, but it is likely that is the case. You can re-upload them, the worst case is that there will be a double and one will need to be deleted later.

Quoting gonzalu (Reply 35):
Any news if head screeners are going though the appeals? And/or is that broken too and will be dealt with AFTER the fixes are in place?

Haven't tried any appeals so not sure if it is broken. The problem with appeals is that we cannot select the batch size that gets pulled from the appeal queue. In the normal queue we can select 1, 5, 10, or 20 image batches but not in appeals. So I think best to wait.

Thanks for the observation on screening one image batches, I will put that into the internal screening team thread.

Pete

As a 'volunteer', do you guys need us to state if everything went well or not? Or what info do you need from us after the photos are screened? (if any info at all).

In my case, so far I had 3 screened, 3 accepted but only 1 actually shows up in the DB.
