I would love to find out what its low ISO noise performance is like, versus the old 7D.

I think it just came out within the past few days. I personally will be trying it out with my Canon CPS evaluation loan before I consider buying it. I just know there will probably be a long line of people waiting to get their hands on one to play around.

I got mine delivered late yesterday afternoon, and took it straight out of the box and to a high school football game. No time to tinker with settings or get the AF micro-adjustment set perfectly.
Conditions were ok, but I was in the stands, not on the sideline, so there is some distance as usual, the lighting in these stadiums is not great. I didn't get the anti-flicker feature turned on right away, and I shot in JPG as I wasn't sure if Lightroom would be able to import the RAW format yet.
These photos are 100% untouched and straight out of the camera.

My first reaction to them is that the noise is better than the original 7D, and the fps kept pace even shooting at 12800/6400 ISO. I did find some shots out of focus where the player was running towards me, seems AF didn't keep them in focus all the way, will need to check the settings to see if I failed to set it right.
I will shoot a daylight soccer game (kids) and then some planes this afternoon and put them up too.

Here is a shoot done at the UT/Florida game with the 7D MKII. There are some really good interesting shots as a bonus. I don't know this guy, this "article" was forwarded to me as I'm a Vols and Canon fan.

This thing seems to be really well put together. Having lost an old 7D to water damage, its nice to see Canon having put some thought into weather sealing this time round.
Must admit, this seems to be an impressive camera and part of me is thinking that I may have been premature in switching to Oly. But then I tell myself bodies come and go, its the glass that really matters.

As it happens, I'm using a couple of my old FD lenses (35 1.8 and 200 f4) which now have a new lease of life. But its the Oly glass I'm really interested in. The pro range 12-40 is stunning, and I'm waiting on the arrival of the 40-150. When released I'll also get the 7-14 and 300.
If the 12-40 is anything to go by, this will be a powerful kit with IQ 2nd to none. Sure the m4/3 system has its drawbacks, but the positives fit more closely to my style and needs than the DSLRs - and I imagine the bodies will improve in performance in due course.

My only issue with the original 7D was its noise performance at low ISO. I remember taking it out of the box, shooting some pics outside in a perfect sunny weather, and than finding out, that it showed quite a bit of noise even at 100 ISO, especially in the sky, and that I had to apply noise reduction even at these settings, which I never had to do in the 40D. That was a big disappointment.
That's what I would primarely like to find out: how the 7D Mark II performs at 100 in comparison with the 7D.

Ditto - great camera spoiled by a mediocre sensor.
I was getting worried that I had made a mistake abandoning Canon with all the positive things said about the 7D II, but according to the new DXO review, perhaps not. Brilliant in all respects EXCEPT low ISO, which I use for 90% of my work.

EDIT: That's not to say the camera is REALLY bad or anything. It's obviously a step up over its predecessor. But it's disheartening that Canon has barely caught up in an area that has been a weakness for a long time (pure sensor quality).

I'm hoping to order mine near the end of the month. Despite what everyone is saying about how good it could be, or should have been. It's a steal of a deal for a "spotters" camera and will be a huge improvement from my 40D. I don't need the greatest and latest in camera technology. I don't care it doesn't have Wi-Fi, 4K video or one of those flimsy tilty LCD screens. I know I'll be very impressed with it compared to my 40D. It'll serve me well for quite a few years until I upgrade again, possibly to a 5D MK V

I had a 40D before I upgraded to 7D. I also thought I would be very impressed. But I was much less impressed than I had expected; it had impovements over 40D, but in some areas, such as image noise at low ISO, it fell short. That's why I am somewhat cautios now.

Indeed. At double the megapixels as the 40D (20.2 versus 10.1), the individual pixels of the 7DmII are about half the size of those found on the 40D, which hugely affects the dynamic range of each 7DmII pixel compared to the 40D: Less tolerance for a clean signal of a range of light intensities before inducing noise.

Of course it is hard to make a direct comparison across generation of sensors ... for instance the chart you refer to does not factor in the design of the pixel site (which has changed), or of course advances in software & processing engine.
However, I would also love to see what a 10mp implementation on the current sensor tech. would look like (I said the same when the 7D was released).
There must be a sweet spot for resolution and image quality. In my view, at base ISO a blue sky should be noise free. I had this on the 1st and 2nd generation Canon CMOS (up to 6mp), the original 5D and close enough on the 1DIII (10mp).(12mp). Taking into account variations in sensor size, these have fairly similar pixel pitches and sizes (within 25%).
Presumably a modern 10mp sensor would also provide much better high ISO performance.
10 (good) mp is more than enough for most purposes (I've had A1 size prints off the 1DIII which look great). But of course you lose the ability to make aggressive crops of the image, which might not suit those who are focal length limited.
Of course it would take some courage and creative marketing for Canon to produce such a camera "Less is more!"

Canon 7D Mark II, 20-megapixel digital camera, Canon 300 mm f/2.8 L IS version II lens at f/2.8. Seventy 60-second exposures at ISO 1600 were added (70 minutes total exposure). No dark frame subtraction, no flat fields, no noise reduction. Tracking with an astrotrac. The Horsehead is a very faint nebula, so this image demonstrates that the 7D Mark II is an amazing low light camera for it to record so much detail in this exposure. Full size image is at 2.8 arc-seconds per pixel, and the image here is 4 times less (11.2 arc-seconds per pixel).
I'm quite amazed!

I think it's pretty important to understand that the garbage DXO turn out in terms of reviews is simply that.
Testing a camera in one plane and ignoring 95% of the imaging solution and rating cameras solely on that 5% is just that.,garbage reviewing.
Until they broaden there testing to include values other than base ISO the tests are worthless from comparison pov.
7DMk2 may not be a 1Dx but it certainly seems to provide a good package for the price.
