Hi all,
I was wondering whether someone could give some info or hints on where/when to spot A-10 Thunderbolts?
Any active Hog bases where spotting is allowed? Any airshows in 2015 with Hog flying displays?
Any info is welcome.
Cheers,
Thierry

Tucson - saw one A2A out of Davis-Monthan (the AFB next to the huge PIMA boneyard).. Don't know how accessible the area is though..

You're lucky as there are now a bunch of them on Spangdahlem. They will probably fly on wednesday and thursday, but of course you can never be certain with military movements.

Thanks Gabor, but I guess they are not regular visitors there.
Also thanks NIcholas. Don't know if I'll get near Arizona anytime this year but I'll keep it in mind.
@Peter: do you know if there are any remotely reliable movement info anywhere on this and where would it be allowed to spot in around Spangdahlem (resp. what's the best spot?)
Cheers,
Thierry

Not in
AMS, unless there are more engine malfunctions.

Thanks Chris, but I don't think they'll regularly pass through
AMS.
Spangdahlem would be an option; could anybody give hints on photographing there?
Also if anybody knows of A-10s displaying at an airshow in Europe, the States or elsewhere, any heads up would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Thierry

No worries, Chris!
Will try Spangdahlem if I have some time and check out if some airshow in the States might have a Hog display.

Currently the A-10 is not scheduled to have any airshow appearances, at least as a flying display. There are many bases that have A-10s. I think the best would be Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. There are local A-10s and a whole lot of other things from helicopters to F-35s. And the base is easy to spot at.

Hi Thierry,
I think it's allowed. According to my Scramble paper guide, you can only photograph approaches. On the western side it's fairly obvious where you need to go: the north-south stretch of rthe No 60 road south of Spangdahlem village. There are little side roads near the approach. For the eastern side you need to walk 1.2 km or so, continuing on a path from the northern end of Saalholzstrasse in Binsfeld.
The visitor at
AMS has now left by the way.
Peter
