Military Spotting

Wed Apr 08, 2015 9:02 am

I will be attending Tiger Meet 2015 soon and it would be a great opportunity for spotting as I hope to be very close to the runway.

Please share your recommendations that would improve my images cause this ill be my first time spotting military aircraft and I would like to learn any tips you might think appropriate for such an event.

Best.

Fast jets are by definition fast.

So for take off and landing shots you need to decide your settings etc in plenty of time.

Equally for ground shots, assess likely locations, routes etc in advance.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations HTH.
Sadly there wouldn't be a lot of choice for location etc, as we will be inside the base, hopefully around the runway and we will shoot where ever they put us.

I see plenty of shots in the DB from Konya AB. Light looks good and if they've organised a spotter's day before (Exercise Anatolian Eagle 2014) I am sure they'll know where to put the photographers this time as well.

And of course, look up http://www.suncalc.net/ for info about sun positions through the time you'll be shooting. This is the single most useful pre-planning tool. The runway at Konya is north-south, so you'll have good light for at least half the day regardless of where you're situated.

You might also want to directly contact some of the photogs who shot Anatolian Eagle and see if they can give you some specific tips and tricks for the base:
