Spotting At ORY Without A Spotting Pass Possible?

Wed Nov 04, 2015 8:27 am

Dear all,

I'm Dickson. Next week I am going to Paris. I know that it is necessary to show the Spotting Pass to the police here when spot planes in CDG.
Hpwever, although I have sent the documents to the authority, I don't think I can get the Pass before I leave for Paris. What a pity!
Another choice is Paris Orly(ORY). I don't know whether there are the same regulations as CDG to show the Spotting Pass.
Could you please give me some information or advice on that?
Thanks for your precious time!

Dickson

The permit is only needed within the prefecture that contains CDG (and incidentally LBG) so it is not needed at ORY.

I have been approached by the Police at ORY on a couple of occasions but they have always been very pleasant and polite.

At ORY, you don't need an authorisation like it is the case at CDG.

Some nice places to be, depending on the runway in use:

Have fun.

I have not been for a few years now but the park at D on the link above is closed on Mondays.

Using that map, zoom out a touch, where the A106 is shown there is a road marked in white on that map. You can park on there or a long-stay car park nearby and get shots like these by moving about a bit

Last time I was there I found an industrial estate, somewhere above where Essonne is marked and whilst the light was not good for me that day, it should be really good place

The traffic is nothing like as varied at CDG but it is still a good place to take photos so have fun

Last time I was there on a late afternoon in May, Rwy 26 was in use for landings. There's a small parking lot near the threshold and you can catch the landing aircraft as they appear over a large building, although it's not a great spot.

And even if you don't like stuffed aicraft, you may want to make an exception for the Concorde of the former Musée Delta which can currently be photographed nicely from near the Athis-Mons - Porte de l'Essonne tramway station.

ORY also has an Airport Viewing gallery where reasonable shots can be taken.

WOW! The attacks are scary. I just get home now from Paris! It seems not a good time for plane-spotting. Best wish to the A.net spotters in Paris fine!

I visited CDG in April 2012, so I had sent all documents to this known email address. It has been almost 3 years now and I haven't got any answer yet. Do you have any idea what the reason for that might be? Have you similar experience?

I think it's getting more and more difficult to get a permission for CDG by now. Though I hope they'll still respect the spotters being there.

Ah, I haven't gotten my permission until now. After the attacks in Paris, I think it is more difficult to get the permission. BTW, I sent my documents to the authority by mail, not email. So maybe you can try to send documents by mail.
