Canon 7D Question

Sun Dec 13, 2015 3:03 pm

Trying to see if anyone has had this issue with the 7D. While doing some night shooting this week I had this problem, took a shot , maybe a 10 second exposure, the shutter released as normal after the shot was finished. A few moments later I looked at the back of the camera and noticed the busy light was still red. I tried to view the menu, could not do that, tried to power the camera down with the on/off switch, that would not work. I had to pull the battery and reinsert it and everything worked fine. I took about 10 more shots after that and did not have any problems. I was using a Canon 100-400L IS lens. The camera probably has maybe 50 or 60,000 clicks om it.

Check the menu and see if long exposure noise reduction is set to 'On.' If it is, set it to 'Off,' try again and see if the behaviour persists.

Cheers

What type of camera card were you using? It most likely is the long exposure noise reduction but it could potentially be the card was unable to read/write fast enough

Long exposure was set to off. CF card is 16GB SanDisk Extreme Pro. Tried about 50 shots this morning with no problems.
Thanks for the feedback!

Sounds like a brain fart (crash) of the system.

Friend of mine had similar problem after planespotting in rainy day on 7D. Camera hung few times (maybe due to humidity, who knows) and he was unable to take shots. Once we arrived home in to dry enviropment everything went to normal.
BTW he sold camera few weeks later...

I've had the problem with the "busy red light" several times even under normal condition. Then again my 7D is now 6 years old.

Good to know what firmware was in the camera. I rather will install latest firmware into it. It might help.
