That thread is useful especially for iPhone users. The catch with a mobile phone is lack of any optical zoom capability. Even a tiny amount of digital zoom hugely diminishes the quality of an image. If you can find a mobile phone with optical zoom that would be good (iPhone 6s was rumored to get this but ultimately it didn't make the cut). If not, a mobile phone will be of limited use for photography unless you have ramp access and unfettered access to move around the aircraft.

I have an LG G4. It has a pseudo manual mode that allows adjustment of the ISO, focus, shutter speed and white balance. It can save photos as JPEG or DNG raw files. Superb camera. I don't think I've tried uploading any here. I struggle getting photos accepted nowadays taken with a Nikon D7000 far less a smartphone.
Photos taken with my last smartphone a Samsung Galaxy S4 have been accepted here though.

Its depends upon your usages and your budget. If you have enough budget then suggest to buy iPhone 6S. Or Samsung Glaxy note 4.

or buy any phone you like and forget taking picture for with it, unless you have ramp access and are allowed to take pictures on the ramp.
