Thanks guys .. exactly what I thought. Frustrating as I have been chasing this one for a while and never seem to have the right conditions. I'll bin this one and keep chasing.

Thanks again.

Hi Chris,

looks heat hazed / oversharpened (titles) and light is very harsh. So it won't make it as it is, and there's nothing to be done against heat haze. The quality is not really there.
I would really recommend to not shoot at midday during times with high sun. And look for opportunities to shoot with lower sun..

I would totally agree with Julien's point on Heat Haze which destroys most of it. Sorry about it.

Your concerns are right. It is backlit and therefore has a dark forgreground but yet a bright sky. So if you expose the aircraft more the sky will look blown out. I am afraid, but this one is rather for the personal collection.

Hi Community

Just after some feedback on this Shanghai Airlines Dreamliner.

I have some concerns around the heat haze coming from the engines distorting the aircraft body but not sure if these kill the image for the site or are acceptable. I have exported at a smaller size than I normally would to try and minimise the effect.

Thanks

HI Chris,

To me it looks like there is a lot of heathaze in general. Not only from the engines but also around the front of the aircraft, clearly visible to me. I would say this photo is not fixable.

Agree with Stefan. Heat hazed and very harsh lighting. Also looks over sharpened. Perhaps, bet to move on.

Well as Jehan and Stefan have noted the quality is not there. Heat haze is all over. Again, I would recommend to not shoot at times when the sun is at the highest, this will lead to not really nice light and also heat-haze, especially at a larger distance.
So in the warmer month I would recommend to only shoot early morning / late evening and avoid midday shooting.

Thanks Guys for the feedback. Unfortunately its starting summer here and to get anything outside of the standard domestic 737s shooting is limited. I was 99% sure it wasn't going to make it but was just hoping. Anyway, thanks as always and this one is in the bin :-(

Ok .. a different question this time. Most of my shots are normally landing or take off as I can rarely get shots of the ramp, however this time I could. I'm confident the picture itself is ok but, is there too much going on and would it be given a motive rejection?

Thanks

Thanks Kas .. yes, unedited. I didn't want to spend too much time on it if it was going to be an instant rejection. Now that I know that it will be ok, I'll do an actual edit.

Asiana: Looks ok.

Batik: Nose looks a little blurry, probably better at a smaller size.

JetStar: Poor crop (the a/c is in the top left of the frame), blurry.

Well other than being flat and hazy it's very toplit for a very common plane. I would let this one go.

Because it would need quite a boost in contrast which then accentuates the shadows. Try to shoot in better light / circumstances.

Hi Chris,
Sorry for the late reply.
Singapore 77W looks in low quality for me since it suffers from some heat haze I think, and the light isn't very good, which would decrease the possibility of accepting because our DB has already had lots of photo of this REG. Standard would be increased due to this. That's also why some of you will get "Common" sometime.
Qantas B789 looks very underexposed for me. Low contrast slightly due to light and weather problems I think. Hard to make it sorry.
Hope can be helpful for you .

Regards,
Harry

Hi All ... one for the screening team

I have been trying to scan some of my older film images into digital with varying levels of success. Is the criteria for film scans the same as digital shots or is there a bit more leniency in the image?

This is one I have been working on (from about 1997), just not sure if its something that acceptable, or I just something nice for me to play with but isn't for the site?

Any feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Chris,

Vintage images are screened with some leniency with regards to sharpness, quality, grain and even motive. My recommendation is to try to use editing tools available today to try to restore the image to as good a quality as possible without making it looked "cooked". The image above looks a little over exposed to me. Otherwise should be OK. I am not on the vintage screening team and can't speak specifically to the details. A lot is up to screener discretion. You can also take a look at some of the accepted vintage shots to get an idea of what is acceptable. I know that images from the 1960's through the 1980's tend to get a lot more lenience due to their rarity.

Cheers,

Jehan

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the late reply. Since both of these photos are Scanned Photos (I suppose), we (normal screener & Heads) cannot give accurate opinions on them because these photos would be distributed to another queue (Vintage Queue)for scanned experts to screen.
For the second one, if it's possible to adjust the color I would try to make it less blue/ purple.

Sincerely,
Harry

The 737 looks blurry and both appear to have had a bit too much noise reduction applied, resulting in a high degree of fine detail loss. they also look a bit oversharp. I think the Sunstate stands a good chance with a more careful edit.

Hi. Just looking for some feedback on this Air New Zealand 777. Was a cold morning so I am most concerned about the heat from the engines. They don't seem to be interfering with the aircraft in my opinion but I would like an independent opinion.

Needs CW rotation, also slightly oversharped and the wheels are not clear.

Hi Chris,

For me it needs some additional brightness and contrast. Also a hint of blurriness at the full size. I recommend uploading at 1200 pixels. The composition is excellent with the rainbow in the background.

Hello,

I've been getting quite a few of my photos from Denver rejected for the horizon not being level. What is A.net's definition of level? It seems to me that horizontal lines are being used instead of vertical lines as reference, which is not the true horizon. DEN is built on rolling hills, the runways are sloping up or downhill quite a bit. Here are three examples that were recommended CW rotation.

In this example, the white tower on the right and the walls of the building on the left are perfectly vertical. Even the runway edge lights are vertical under the aircraft. Runway is sloping downhill to the left, background is rolling hills.

Image

Second example is this CRJ from a similar angle. White tower on right is vertical, phone pole on left side is vertical, runway edge lights vertical. Runway sloping downhill to the left.

Image

Third example, ATC tower perfectly vertical, ramp lights perfectly vertical. Terminal apron sloping downhill to the left. Runway edge lights also vertical.

Image

What would A.net like to see as a reference line for the horizon if not vertical lines?
Thanks for your feedback!
Best,
Tamas

Here is another horizon rejection I don't understand. According to A.net this needs CW rotation because the tower is leaning. Here is the grid alignment, which shows it perfectly vertical. What am I missing?

Hi Screening Team

Can I please have some feedback on this one before I upload it? It's shot with a 2x extender on (which I don't normally shoot with) so I am not 100% sure on it. It looks Ok to me but would rather check here first.

(Just realised the image isn't centered so please don't point this out, I'll fix before upload  )

Hi Chris,

For me, the image needs more contrast. It also looks like it has a slight blue color cast. Try some WB adjustment based on the white on the fuselage. Any cloning/fill done in the lower left corner? I can't tell for sure, but if you have, I would not submit it as it is likely to get rejected with a reprimand if noticed.
