Post-Screening Advice

Sun Jul 22, 2018 6:14 pm

Hello--fairly new at aviation photography, at least at this level, and am looking for some advice and help on photo processing and understanding the rejection reasons. This photo was rejected for heat haze, noise, and oversharpened. I (now) see the noise in the sky and I guess the heat haze is in the background, but I'm not clear on why it's oversharpened. Image. Comments appreciated. Thanks.

The aircraft itself is suffering from heat haze, notice how lines appear not straight, the wing and fuselage look strangely bumpy. That's an indication of heat haze. The aircraft looks oversharpened to compensate for that, and is very noisy. I know that all sounds bad, but trust me, not bad for a first attempt. I was way worse than that when I first started.

Thanks. I took a series of photos of different planes that day, and some had much more noticeable haze issues but this one was more subtle to me and I confess I didn't recognize the haze for what it was. I'm still struggling a little bit with figuring out what makes this one oversharpened, though I can see a bit of noise now that you mention it. Frankly, as hot as it was that day, I'm surprised they all weren't much more distorted and psychedelic. Thanks again for the pointers and for sharing them nicely--I appreciate it!
