Screening Feeback

Mon Sep 10, 2018 6:59 pm

Hello everyone wanted to get some opinions on a couple of rejections as well as pictures still in screening.

https://i.imgur.com/kBTyhRv.jpg

Rejected for quality, Halos and Vignetting

I personally don't see halos and I've seen pictures with more vignetting accepted, I've tried to clean it up as much possible.

https://i.imgur.com/iQ6lrZE.jpg

rejected for overexposed, previously rejected for underexposed when it was slightly darker, and apparently blurry?
Possibly a resize issue, since at least full size image looks pretty crisp on my screen.

Still got these 3 waiting for screening that I'd love to get comments on

N903AN: halo's visible near the back of the right engine. I don't see any obvious vignetting
PH-BHO: rather bright (especially the white parts) but still within limits on my screen. Does seem oversharped and halos visible near the main and nose gear
The other three: too much contrast, oversharped, halos. Some kind of HDR editing?

Thanks, seems i overdid a bit on the contrast, after getting a slew of low contrast rejections.
No HDR, just a lot of reducing highlights and increasing shadows.
Will rework them, thanks for the feedback

reworked version of N903AN

https://i.imgur.com/vCDnJng.jpg

I don't see any noticable halos. I still do see some vignetting in the top corners, but I can't do much more about it w/o ruining the image I think.
Lowered sharpness a little as well, let me know if this is any better.

not entirely sure if I made this better or worse

One way to fix vignetting issues for N903AN is to use the Lens Correction tool by going to Filter > Distort > Lens Correction (depends on which Photoshop version you use); under Vignetting, you can slide the "amount" value to the lighter setting (I personally set the value between 9 and 14, depending on which lens you use). I would apply the lens correction tool before starting my workflow of leveling the horizon, then cropping, and vice versa (for my preference).

it's already at max lens correction, i'm actually a bit surprised, though again the plane was quite a bit offcenter in the original, that's likely part of the issue

The reworked 903AN is overexposed. Try reducing highlights by -30/-40. If it gets dark, add a little bit of shadows/whites. Looks pretty nice otherwise.
FL1 looks a little cyan, but not too bad. Otherwise nice.

I just had the following rejected for soft/blurry

https://i.imgur.com/VmMiuRO.jpg

I did use a bit less sharpening than usual, however for the life of me I can't figure out where there is any blurriness there.

Thanks in advance

To me, it has a blurry feel in parts. Selective sharpening (particularly around the fuselage titles) may help but depends on the original. It's very difficult to determine if it's genuinely blurry from such a small file.

Blurry for me--especially visible in the main titles.

https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/ai ... 424edb2577

can anyone see which specific part might be blurry because I can't see anything.

Thanks,

Hi team, I've gotten quite a few rejections lately so probably time to get my bearings straight. Would appreciate some comments on the following

https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/ai ... 669e31b583

rejected for: Banding, color, underexposed. Apparently there is a cyan cast which I don't really see, I also don't really see any banding in the sky.

https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/ai ... 6a73b8971f

This has gone through a couple rejections, apparently now has a pink cast, though tbh the ilght wasn't great I'm thinking of giving up on this one entirely.

https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/ai ... 985ec96a27

Soft (Note: I've gotten a lot of soft rejections since dropping my lens, I did get it repaired but still might have issues)

https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/ai ... fbda9bf2dc

I can't seem to find the rejection e-mail for this, but it said something along the lines of sky color looking fake/weird.

Any tips on these would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Mikhail

Hi Mikhail,

My thoughts:
SW Window view: Not seeing cyan but the color of the sky looks very saturated and the difference in the tonality does not look good. Photographing through the window typically causes this effect on a sunny blue sky. Exposure looks OK.

LH A350: Not seeing a pink cast. Just needs more contrast which will rectify the soft issue.

LH 747: Not seeing soft. The glare on the tail is a bit distracting and may draw a motive for what I think is a common airframe. Otherwise OK for me.

SAS A330: Looks underexposed to me.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys, resurrecting my thread here, a question to the screeners, would something like this draw a motive rejection (regardless of anything else)?

I unfortunately only had my 200-500 with me and this is as wide as I could get.

Thx,

Hi, Mikhail
This crop really looks unbalanced for me I am not a fan of this one IMO. Left side is so empty and the light angle is not quiet suitable for this kind of crop I think.

Harry

Hi, Mikhail
Sorry for the late reply for your thread. I understand that the reflection on the body is very nice, but the whole aircraft is very oversharpened as you can see some jaggy around th edge of the a/c. Those unknown black spots / objects would be better to be removed although those are birds or insects unless they are easily reconized by us ~ Or it would be given by Dirty sometime ; )
Hope would be helpful !

Cheers,
Harry

Hey Harry,

Thanks for the feedback. Yea oversharpened I can fix I was more concerned with the washed out and somewhat overexposed sky. I already put a gradient exposure filter on it but that's about all I can do there. I'll play around with it some more tonight and then give it a shot probably.

Applying those gradient tools would probably result in Editing Reasons.

Harry

Hi Mikhai,
Sorry to not mention about the filer you mentioned before.
a gradient exposure filter on it
. Applying gradient filer which is not allowed for A.net actually. As a result, would probably be better to find other way but not over-editing method to help it :D

Could use a bit of help with this photo, it has now been rejected on 4 occcasions (which is a record for me). For cyan color cast...I thought I got rid of it but apparently not, any help would be appreciated.

It looks a bit oversharpened to me, you can see the jaggies on the trailing edge flaps. Also think it may be oversaturated with the contrast a little heavy for the site's liking?

Just started scanning old slides again, with new equipment. And I thought to try out, if they have what it takes to be accepted here.
So any and all feedback will be appreciated.
Especially would love to hear the thoughts of screeners here, before I go ahead and spend a lot of time on editing and uploading.
