Hey all. This may be a long shot but unfortunately my 55-200mm lens broke on me and this was the best shot I could get. :( I'd love to priority add this but I'm very so-so. Feedback would be appreciated!

It's not eligible for priority anymore. Can't comment on the quality yet, since I'm not on my screening computer. But for a photo like this, I would use a portrait crop. similar to this (sorry for the own plug):

I agree with Kas re the crop. The landscape style crop shows a lot of empty space on the right side of the frame. Not the best lighting tho :(

I decided to just bin the photo. It doesn't look much better in portrait mode whether I have it in 4x3 or 3x2. Weather was also terrible that day (which is typical for where I live). Oh well, hopefully the new livery comes in again soon on a better day!

Hello all... really unsure about this one. I feel like brightness and leveling are off, just wanted some second opinions. Thanks!

Not sure if this is a valid screening measure, since I am relatively new to the whole process of submitting photos here, but I think, if you had the cropping capacity available, it would be better if the plane was in the center of the image with the scenery in equal parts on the left and right of the frame (if there is nothing distracting).

Centering is fine as-is, with the above idea, you would get a 'right in frame' rejection.

Hey all... I'm down to these two crops of the same aircraft and I am having a hard time deciding which one looks the best. I prefer the first crop but it seems like the second crop is the more popular one by going through images of D-ABUM in the DB. Curious to see what everyone else's thoughts are. Thanks!

Hi, I would say the first one is not acceptable since you cut off a small part of the tail.

For the first photo, if you crop closer to the top of the tail logo and to the engine on the right side of the frame (aspect ratio would remain the same), that crop would be passable as well. As for which one you should upload; the one you like the most.

Is the taxiway light not an issue as it's clearly avoidable?

How about now?

Yeah I'm not too happy about that either but that was the highest quality shot I got of that angle. The location I shot that from is difficult since I have to deal with those lights while also shooting through a fence and trying to get my camera positioned and focused correctly all at once.

This goes back to the thread I just started over at Aviation Photography. All three of these got rejected for blurry and soft. I truly fail to see how at 1200px, and compared to others I have shot that have been accepted with no issue.

I'll throw in this one from earlier this month, which was rejected for Blurry, Oversharpened, and Quality:

They do look slightly blurry to me to be honest but the originals will tell you for sure. I've said it many times but you can't properly determine blur from a 1200 pixel image. If the original is blurry, then the edit will be too.

Hey Evan,

They're not great; the AA and BA seem a bit sharp and perhaps oversharpened to compensate slight blur. The JB is the worst of those listed and I would recommend to let that one go. The AK is marginal as well, but passable for me.

Kas and Karl, thanks for your honest answers. I have entire sequences for the first three so maybe I could salvage something but I doubt it. Also, I already appealed the Alaska and it was upheld still, so I may have to give up on that one too.

I might be in the market for a new lens much sooner than I anticipated...

N816NN: A bit oversharpened, but passable for me
N7882B: Not the best image, but can't see a serious flaw to decline it. I'm 50/50 on it.
N707TW: Blurry and some over-sharpening to compensate?
JBA321: Looks a bit over-sharpened (titles)
N8678 E: Same comment as N7882B
N8445Z: Not the best fighting..alittle more contrast perhaps?

Thanks Jehan. I ended up binning 7882 because there was an issue I found that was unfixable. I guess the image still showed up in the reply even after I deleted it.

For the JetBlue... do you mean the main titles or the small ones below the cockpit? I went over the entire billboard titles with the eraser at 100% strength.

Re the JB, I see some minor jaggies on the main titles. May be OK as is, This one may be up to screener judgment.
