Pre-screening for musicman4327

Mon Apr 15, 2019 6:42 pm

Howdy,

I'm worried that these might be a little soft which is why I exported them at 1024px wide. Also, not sure about the color balance. Feedback would be much appreciated. I'm going to pic the best of these two if either is ok.

Thanks.

Soft and 'Id even say blurry on both. Quality is not sufficient to pass screening for a.net.What kind of equipment are you using? Stay with this group...we can help :)

EOS5D MK IV (new, getting used to it still), and a Tamron 100-400.

These shots were from a good ways away at almost 400mm of zoom.

The shots look affected by atmospheric disturbance or heathaze. What ISO was used? There seems some noise on the fuselage too.

The nose looks blurry in both photos and the aircraft is quite backlit/toplit. The camera is certainly fine, I'm unfamiliar with the lens and its quality. Better to take photo where the sun is more or less behind you.

N674G: Passable
N824TE: Looks a little oversharpened as well. I also wonder if it could be cropepd better to avoid a lot of empty space?
N49265:Passable
N62379: May be better in 16:9 crop to avoid empty space on top and bottom of frame. IF the main subject is the covered aircraft, unless it is a first submission, it will draw a motive rejection for the cover. If N62379 is the main subject, it may also draw a motive rejection since it is obstructed by the aircraft in front. Not a fan of this composition.

#2 looks distant and high in frame
#3 looks compressed somehow. Also low in frame
#4 Cheatlines of the Cessna are jaggy. Main subject should be the Mooney and is subject to whether or not we already have it in the DB without cover.

Agree with Jehan for the rest.

Thanks much for the feedback.

Re-edits of the beach and R44:

I am a little unsure of how to place the R44 laterally in the frame with this crop; is this OK?

Thank you in advance,

Hi Stuart !

Sorry for the late reply for your thread. Here're my opinions for them :
N624XA : CW rotation needed (Using consturctions outside airport) ; Too low in frame (Too much space on the upper frame) ; Could be slightly brighter.
N542NM: Vignettings from left and right side ; Slightly low in frame for me.
N726DR: CW rotation needed ; Too low in frame as well.
N151MH: I can see slight halos (black) surround the upper edge of the aircraft and the cover of the cockpit although it's not obvious ; Slight vignetting at the upper left corner. Otherwise ok.
N53... : Looks ok for me.

Rgrds,
Harry

Stuart,

Looking at some of those images I see you've either very wide apertures or higher ISO sensitivities coupled with unnecessarily fast shutter speeds. The vignetting issue in your second image will be a direct result of shooting your lens close to wide open — you'd have been much better shooting at f/8+ with ISO100 to reducing the shutter speed by a good few stops.
