Re: Pre-screening Rene Wendt

Hi Rene,

The first 2 look nice.
The Falcon & head-on 757 looks UE/backlit, likely won't work.
The Kamov needs some more sharpening.
The last 2 look square in size, this is not allowed. The Chinook needs a tighter crop and cooler white balance. The MErlin is low contrast, distant and backlit (likely will not work).

That was a quick reply, thank you very much.

I will bin the Falcon, 757 and the Merlin, I don't think any further magic will be possible.

The Chinook and Kamov will be re-edited in a few hours.

Cheers

I have added more sharpening to the Kamov:

A new tighter crop (perhaps the crop should eliminate the ground?) and a cooler white balance for the Chinook:

The Kamov looks passable, the Chinook is low contrast.

More contrast added to the Chinook:

I'll throw another photo into this thread, hope it's ok:

The Chinook looks passable, the EC-130 looks blurry and partially overexposed.

The Chinook is added to the que and the EC-130 deleted.

I seem to struggle a bit with the sharpness and over/under-exposed photos. How about this one?:

Hi Rene,
The whole a/c looks very blurry for me and it does look underexposed. BTW, it seems to need little bit CW rotation to me as well.

Reards,
Harry

The Ryanair is very blurry and will not make, nor does it look fixable.

Kas ( and others),
Could you have a look at the NEF file?
Something is happening in the proces from camera raw to jpeg.
I can upload the file when work is over tonight.

Thanks for the valuable feedback

Hm, that's interesting. I suggest you make the filesize a bit larger. The original should be able to support 1400-1600px, with a bit increased sharpening on the fuselage and especially cockpit section.

Okay, I changed my workflow a bit. After making adjustments in Camera Raw the photo was opened with Photoshop, resized and exported as JPEG. The earlier version was saved as a JPEG in Camera Raw.
The file size is now 1600px.

The result:

Thanks Harry.

I'll up the exposure and contrast a bit. I guess this also means the photo is sharp now?

Rene

Crop is a bit tight. Other than that, looks good to me.

A few photos from the Air Show at Roskilde airport in Denmark. Would the signature in the lower right corner be acceptable?

Would this qualify as creative?:

I think these two photos are quite nice, but the weather was poor and the B-17 was shot just before the sunset. Are they acceptable?:

High in frame, overexposed sky, slightly oversharpened and in general poor light. I would let it go, sorry.

No need to be sorry! The weather is very poor in Copenhagen, thus I knew it was marginal.
Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Rene,
This one looks better than the preious one in terms of light. But it still has High in Frame issue.
Usually when you have a photo similar to this angle, would be better for you to balance the space between upper and bottom. The same for you to balance left and right space (Some exceptions exist sometime like 737-700). In this case, it's apparent that upper space is much smaller than bottom space. Would be easier to tell from thumbnail.
Hope that helps : )

Thanks harry, it helps a lot.
The position in frame will be adjusted, no problem.

The white airframe causes me some problems, as the difference between correct exposure and over-exposure seem to be pretty narrow.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Rene

A new one if someone has time to spare.
Does it need more contrast?

Hello Rene,

For me: too contrasty, heat haze, blurry and over sharpened. I would pass on this one.
