Good afternoon,

Could you all please provide feedback on this image. I posted in the A.net photography forum asking for advice on how to reduce halos. This is the photo I was referring to in that post. Your observations, as well as advice on how to correct any flaws would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't think this halo should be a problem. However, the image looks a little soft/blurry.

I agree with Kann. Cannot recognize any halos from this image.

Is there any other correction to adjust softness besides adding more sharpening?

Reducing the image size can help. I see this shot is at 1300 wide. Perhaps you might try her out at 1024 or 1200?

With that said, I don't think she's substantially soft/blurry. How much USM did you apply to this shot? In my experience, airliners prefers shots that are borderline oversharpened. When I'm editing, a rule of thumb I follow is "when in doubt, add more sharpening"... haha.

The sharpening applied was USM 50% at 1.0. That’s pretty much the standard I use. Then I’ll use the sharpening tool at 35% to spot-treat softer areas, and the eraser to fix any jaggies.

I do USM200-300 at 0.2, but I suppose it's personal preference. I think it's up to you if you want to add more sharpening or reduce the size of the image. I generally decide what I want to do based on the general beauty of the shot. If it's a sunny side-on AA 737 I'll reduce the size. But if it's a Virgin A346 I'll increase the sharpening in order to keep the full-res image a possibility for another round of screening.
