Tips and tricks for getting photos accepted?

Hey all,

Long time lurker and I just recently joined as I've started taking my own photos now that I have a decent camera and lenses, but I'm still learning. I just had one of my first two uploads rejected, which I get, I'm not here to complain about it, but rather I'd like to learn what you all recommend for helpful hints and tricks to get photos approved or what you look for. I know that's kind of vague but you gotta start somewhere right?

This is the one that was rejected:

https://www.airliners.net/user/photo-co ... to/5998893

And here is one I just entered which I think is much better, although there may be something I don't see:

https://www.airliners.net/user/photo-co ... to/6013077

Anyone have any input? I'm hoping to get at least one approved so I can upload more and hopefully learn from my mistakes and eventually take better photos.

Thanks in advance.

After looking at the newly submitted photo again I deleted it, made some fixes and re-uploaded it. Here is the new link: https://www.airliners.net/user/photo-co ... to/6013113

I have moved this thread to Photography Feedback forum. Please note that your link above is not working.

The link takes me to my own photo corner.
You need to right click on the picture, copy image address, and paste that here.
The link should start with imgproc.airliners.net with a bunch of numbers and letters afterwards.

This forum is awash with experienced photographers happy to give you feedback. You can also look at the recent adds to get an idea of what’s acceptable.

I'm afraid the newly-submitted photo won't make it either — it's unlevel, noisy, the light is poor and it even looks a touch blurry.

What camera and lens(es) are you using?
What photo editing software are you using?
And if you don't mind sharing, what city/airport are you shooting at?

Canon 90D with a Sigma 100-400 F4.5-5.6, I'm using lightroom and the airport is Boston Logan.

I'm afraid the newly-submitted photo won't make it either — it's unlevel, noisy, the light is poor and it even looks a touch blurry.

That's okay, I'm here to learn and ultimately improve so I don't mind the feedback.

Hi Ryan,
first of all, you have to start with a good "native" photo. Both pictures are blurry, so affected by a not-fixable flaw.
You have to find the best settings of your camera according to light conditions.
Photoshop or Lightroom can help you to improve the quality, but if raw version is not good enough, they can't do anything.
Another good hint could be checking the other pics already in database, so you can check our standards.
Last but not least, you can read our acceptance guide and you will find hints to improve your shots.
Waiting for your pics to screen, best regards.

Here are a few tips that helped me:
1. Shoot in raw always
2. Shoot in sunny conditions
3. Always have the sun behind you
4. For still images, try using a tripod
5. Shoot the whole aircraft

Hope this helps!
