Post-screening: Air Force One

Mon Jun 22, 2020 2:57 am

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing well in this uncertain time. It's been a while since I've posted in here, but I just got two rejections that I would like to talk about with y'all. :)

I'm currently at 499 photos on the database and with Donald Trump's visit to nearby Tulsa this weekend, I figured this would be a great opportunity to get Air Force One as my 500th shot on the site. Below are my two attempts at hitting 500, both rejected for reasons listed below.

Attempt 1:

Rejected for common, noise and underexposed. I've never really tried a silhouette shot on this site, but I figured this one was worth a shot. I would have obviously preferred to get a shot of this bird from the other side of the runway (in good light), but the police cordoned off that part of the road. Therefore, I angled myself in a way to get the 747 as close to being against the sun as I could in order to get the silhouette. Do you think this shot could be salvaged?

Attempt 2:

Rejected for common and motive, with the screener comment "too much blockage and dead space between the aircraft". I get that there is a decent amount of space between the aircraft but I figured this could be overlooked given the rarity of catching Air Force One and Air Force Two in the same frame. I know this is a subjective call, but still.

Thanks guys! I would greatly appreciate your input.

Best,
Amrit

Hi Amrit,

The AF1 shot just doesn't work for me — I don't want to sound rude but the first thing I thought when I saw the image was, "I have photos taken when I was about 5 that look like that". In other words there's nothing to distinguish it from a simple holiday snap someone quickly took for posterity. There's just nothing about the sky/background that warrants such an underexposure.

I like the rarity value of the second shot but I have to agree re the distance between the two aircraft.

Thanks for your brutal honesty... :D

I'm giving another angle of AF1 one final try before settling for a run-of-the-mill AA 737 for my 500th on the DB, haha.
