Photos with a wider crop

Thu Jul 29, 2021 4:34 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if photos with a wider crop like the examples below are still being accepted or if they would be rejected for motive/distant. Also I would like to know if these photos should be uploaded as "mark for the creative screening team" or not.
Thanks in advance for the information.

The wider crop needs to add something, like context, perspective, or scale. The examples you provided all benefit from the wider lens. The crop on this photo from a site without screening standards would not be accepted because the additional scenery is not particularly interesting or helpful. Image

Thank you, and should these kind of photos be uploaded as "mark for the creative screening team" or not?

I don't think you would need to but I would defer to a screener on this. For reference, here's an extensive list of the acceptance guide. It sounds like they automatically take into account whether a distance shot has good motive:

The example photos wouldn’t be creative as far as I can see. They are normal photos with a specific motive that works.

Creative would be the approach lighting with a motion blurred plane shape flying overhead (for those old enough to remember that photo).

Hi all,

Can anybody clarify why the following photo with a wider crop was rejected:

...while another one was accepted:

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

I can only speculate since motive/interesting crop is probably the most subjective of the screening criteria, but my guess is that the screener decided the person was interesting enough to add to the AN225 picture while the area under the runway was insufficient in the 77W
