I really thought this photo would be accepted (it wasn't)

Fri Sep 17, 2021 12:17 pm

Here's my latest attempt to have a photo accepted here (it was rejected this morning) If you were screening this, what reasons would you reject it for? I'm just curious and will post the reasons it was rejected after I get a few responses here. Thanks in advance for taking the time to examine my photo.

First, I think the composition on this photo is very nice. It may appear low-in-frame at first, but I think the inclusion of the tower makes this a very strong photo. Additionally, you used the sunlight to your advantage to really light up the frame.
Most of what determines whether a photo is accepted, what brings it from good to great, is in the editing. There are two things that jump out here that I believe a screener would flag:
1. Blurriness - The image simply isn't sharp enough to be accepted in its current state. This is related to the overall graininess of the photo. I believe tools exist that can help both of these.
2. Something is off about the difference between the highlights and shadows; I can't quite put my finger on it. The back of the aircraft seems almost overexposed, while the shadows of the aircraft (particularly under the wing near the engine and under the front fuselage) are very dark. I believe lightening the shadows and reducing the exposure a bit (or maybe just reducing the highlights) will benefit this image.

Hi,

IMO, the overall quality for this pic is insufficient at this size. It could be improved by using smaller size like 1200px with more sharpness. Smaller size could also reduce the visual effect of heat haze (if any). For this one, I only see obvious "Blurry" , "Soft" and "Noise." Try to sharp your photo with selection which exclude the sky because sky section looks very noisy, which is unusual to see for a sunny daytime pic. Also try to use lower ISO when weather and sunshine is good ; )
Hope it helps.

Regards,
Harry
