Hi everybody. Aviation photography newbie here. I recently submitted a couple of shots which were understandably rejected. I'm learning about lots of things going wrong in this shot (blurriness, banding, vignetting, etc). However, I'm not too clear on the 'distance' and 'motive' reasons. This photo was taken from afar, at 200mm (with a 250mm Canon EF-S zoom lens, entry level) and has been cropped. Let's take aside the overall poor quality for a moment. Regarding 'distance'. Would a more tightly cropped image be acceptable (all other defects being absent)? How do screeners know if it's been cropped? What would the problem with 'motive' be? Too common of an airplane or composition? Thanks a lot. Apologies for the image quality and basic nature of the questions. Regards.

Distance basically means the plane is too small in the frame. In your shot there’s too much dead space around the plane.
Motive is a bit of a catch-all, but for your shot it’s really just emphasising the distance aspect - the distance wouldn’t be a problem if the background was of significant interest, but clear blue sky isn’t enough to justify it.

Comparing this to the latest additions, I'd say it's also about the perspective, which is somewhere between a side view and a bottom view. The livery was designed for side view, and looking from below, the top of the wordmark is missing. However, if you were interested in a bottom view, much of that is in the shadow, which isn't helpful either.
