Hello. I took your image into Photoshop and I think that either by lifting the midtones in 'Levels', or by making a similar adjustment using a Curves adjustment layer (where you have a little more control of subtleties), you can brighten the overall image, which does give it a somewhat less 'dark' feel to it, which it does have now. It has been so long that I can't now recall how to make a revised edit and post it here for you to look at - apologies.
I also took the liberty of cropping the image very slightly (I actually used a 16:10 aspect ratio) and I felt that suited the photo well, and also removes the slightly distracting barbed wire from the bottom of the frame.
Where is the image taken? It reminds me of a spot I found many years ago whilst on holiday in Kephalonia in Greece - a beautiful place.
