Hey guys!
First of all big thanks to Manny and Vik for the educational information on PS steps. I gave it a try, still finding the whole process laborious and time consuming, definitely not 5 minutes of editing.
On to this week's attempt: Interested in hearing what additional editing this will require:

Lovely photo but there's some noise and it's a little dark. It's also a little soft.

I rarely spend more than about 2 minutes on a photo. The key is getting a good quality original to work with to minimise any editing required. The emphasis should be on the photography and getting things right in-camera rather than replying on post-processing.

I'd have to agree with Darren on this shot.
Needs more sharpening aroung the windows, I actually looks a little blurred rather than soft.
As the image it self goes, gotta say its a great angle and location, the crop is a little tight at the back as you've chopped the edge of the tail plane off.

I agree... and don't forget not to crop the stabilizer out!
In this case, there's no reason to clip it out!
So... first, go for a wider crop, thus giving more "order" to the image... and then go with the editing, taking care of the tips above!

All above points are valid - dark, noisy, soft (looks like heat haze), and bad motive for the crop on the left side. Needs a whole new edit I'm afraid.

Thanks for all the feedback! Rather not invest time in a shot that can't be salvaged. Incidentally, that wasn't a crop: that's just a whole lot of A380 @ 500mm. Shot is almost full frame. Surprised me too, I was at least half a kilometer from the airport. As the aircraft crossed the tower it was completely nose-to-tail in the lens... something had to go...
Weather permitting, see if we can work out something else before 15 September. Or not... if my guess is correct there must be about 200 KE 380 shots pouring in from all over Hong Kong just about now... wanted to try something a bit different than the standard approach / taxi shot.
