Post Screening (Candace)

Fri Apr 05, 2013 9:27 pm

Hi.

Have just had my first photo rejected for being soft, which I acknowledge now is certainly the case.

I have only had my DSLR for 6 months and this was my first attempt to submit a photo to A.net so I am very much a novice, but would appreciate any feedback in terms of whether this photo is redeemable, or any advice on how I can remedy this issue in the future for similar shots. Should I be increasing the sharpness level in my camera, or is this step best left for post-editing?

I am shooting with a Canon 60D with an EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L

I did have a go sharpening the image in PS, and have re-uploaded for screening (currently in the queue), but I feel now I should remove it as it looks over-sharpened and harsh to my eyes!

Hello and welcome both to the forum and to a.net!

Not bad at all for your first photo. I would say that the re-edit looks a bit harsh (too much contrast) and a bit oversharpened. I would wait for a screener opinion before changing, though.

Sharpening looks better on the newer one, but the contrast is a bit harsh.

Thank you for your opinions. I will delete my edited version from the queue for now and try again sharpening and adjusting the contrast on the original.

Hello

This is pre-screening but I don't know how I can change the thread title. Is this photo worth submitting? From the original I have applied sharpening and adjusted the colour and contrast slightly.

Any feedback appreciated. Thanks

It's not correctly centred (high and to the left). The aircraft is also very small in frame, so try cropping closer.

I'm a very poor judge of sharpness, but contrast, colour, exposure etc look ok.

Cheers

Fix the crop on the convair and you may wanna sharpen it a bit but I think it's in much better shape than the ANZ photo

If you fix the centering/distance issue, it looks like it should otherwise be ok.

Thanks all. Will fix up the cropping and centering and try my luck uploading to the screening queue.
