Post Screening Kulverstukas

Thu Jun 06, 2013 3:10 pm

In this thread I asked if my photos are acceptable and folowing photos now rejected:

with reasons: A comment from the screener regarding this upload:
"motive for vignetting in corners, below nose" Motive Dirty

and

A comment from the screener regarding this upload:
"more contrast needed" Overexposed Contrast

I can agree with second one - Yak-42 is on the flat side, but what's wrong with Falcon?

As the screener pointed out in their comments, there are some dust spots, and vignetting (dark corners).

I missed the dust spots in your pre-screening thread - sorry about that. But did mention the other issues:

Quoting vikkyvik (Reply 2):
VP-BVY: borderline high in frame, a bit of vignetting in the right corners.
Quoting vikkyvik (Reply 16):
2. Could use a bit of contrast.

I used about +20 of LR manual vignetting tool (as well as auto lens correction), but seems it's not enough. About dust spots I still can't figure them out. Can you please show me where they are? I use LR5 beta new feature for dust removal.

Sorry, I could not find them (except bottom right one) even assisted with LR. However, using equalize in PS I found them and even more   I'm wonder if screeners use PS too or do they have so sharp naked eye for dust?

Sharp naked eye.

On a somewhat tangential note - I didn't know LR5 had a spot-checking tool. Looks like I need to upgrade again!

As for the vignetting, it's a little hit-and-miss, especially in older version of LR(3 & 4) but keep at it, this is a great image and would make a nice addition to the DB.

Cheers

It's beta yet, so it's too early to upgrade, but they added so great things that it definitely worth trying. Alas, for dust spotting it's not so powerful, as I can see now, as equalize in PS.

Equalizing/Photoshop are not part of the screening process. Screening is done through a browser interface, so what you upload is what we see.

Help me please with new reject!

Quoting: A comment from the screener regarding this upload:

"Nice, but sky banding and bad editing in bottom of the frame and lower left corner."

I can't see any banding on my monitor, but it's not a big problem I think, I can use some blur on the sky. But I'm confused what's "bad editing" mean and what part of the a/c (or of the sky?) it affected.

I can hardly see anything without equalizing, but it looks like vignetting in the lower-left corner (there is some in the upper-left also) There is a similar spot at the bottom of the frame roughly below the engines. I can't tell what might have caused it, but it looks more like some light effect than editing to me.

Edited bottom (it was traces of LR5 new feature of smart spot removal, visible if use equalize in PS) and vigneting in BL corner. Blurred sky. Is banding still visible?

Hi there again! Hope somebody can help me with this rejection: Reject reason: cyan tint colour

It was cloudy day and color of the plane (planes really, there was two but I posted one of them only) is somewhere between gray and blue. I tried to change color themp. in LR by picking at white stripe and it seems that white is pure white. In PS I can see that at white it shows about +3% cyan but I forget how to change color themp. in it. Besides, for me it seems that it is sky which makes impression of cyan color tint, not the plane, but is it right to change color of the sky only?

Color looks passable to me. I would give it a slight kick on contrast, but you might be OK there too.
