Pre-Screening, My First Cabin Upload

Sun Jul 13, 2014 3:37 am

Hi everyone,

I'm trying an interior shot for the first time, this one is on a QF 744ER from SYD to DFW.
What do you guys think?

Thank you!

Hi,

This seems soft, noisy and maybe a bit dark.

Have to agree with John on the above and may also say a little blurry, but that just might be due to the noise level.

Hi guys,

Amazingly, it looks like I have a shot of 9M-MRD, the one shot down over Ukraine today. What do you guys think of this?

Hi,

The MH 772 is soft, flat, dark, noisy, maybe blurry in spots, and looks to be of pretty poor overall quality. Sorry, not sure you can get this one up to par.

Alright, thanks John. I was hoping it wouldn't be that bad, considering the special registration.

Hi guys,

I wasn't really spotting when I took this shot, but I had my camera and new lens out when this roared by. I know it's blurry, but considering it's a unique aircraft and the registration is not on the database, do you think it stands a fighting chance?

Hi,

Sorry, I don't think this one would have a shot, the quality and blur as you mention would be issues.

Thanks John, I expected that but was hoping for a miracle, haha.

For the first time, I went spotting with my new Sigma 150-500 lens today and got these results. What do you guys think?

1. red cast, soft, noisy, looks blurry towards the nose, overall quality is poor
2. noisy, yellow cast, soft in spots

Wow, the Cessna is really that bad? I thought it had some mild issues but not so terrible...

Quoting DL747 (Reply 10):

What spots does the ERJ look soft on?

As for the noise, wow, didn't expect that one, haha.

Thanks though!

Alright guys, I chose another shot from the sequence and worked on it. Which one do you prefer?

Hi,

I would say number 2 is better, but it is still soft, maybe blurry towards the front.

Hi John, thanks for the reply. I added a pass of 50 USM to this one on the nose and the front windshield, what do you think?

If it is still soft/blurry, do you think bringing it down to 1024 would help?

Hi,

Yes, this one still seems soft/blurry, I do think 1024 would help. Not sure if it'll have the quality, but worth a shot to rework at 1024 and see how that works out.

Hi Amrit,

I think this one looks a bit better, although still a little soft in spots. It is an improvement, however. Areas that look soft to me include: wheel pants, top of tail, elevator area, rudder, forward portion of cheatline. It is also a bit noisy, not sure if that would be an issue, but if it were me I would give it a bit of NR.

Thanks John, I'll just leave it in the queue and see what happens. If it gets rejected I'll work on those!

Today we had a rare 737-700 arrival into FSM. What do you guys think of this one?

Hi guys,

Sorry to double-post, but I went spotting yesterday and was rewarded with an incredible treat. F/A-18s from the USS Theodore Roosevelt visisted town and here are one of the results.

The 737 looks pretty soft (probably heat haze) You could try 1024px but it looks iffy to me.

The F/A-18 has a bit of the soft/oversharpened look. Maybe it was a bit too soft in the original or else you had to crop fairly heavily? I think I would call this one borderline. If it was mine I would probably go with a smaller image size. It also looks a bit low in the frame.

Alright, will do.

Quoting mjgbtv (Reply 22):

I didn't have to crop it heavily at all, the original was well framed. However, I think you are correct about the softness, I was doing handheld panning at a shutter speed of 1/100. Maybe that caused the softness?

I think what I'll do is leave this one in the queue, but edit one at 1200 and put it in the queue later today. That way if the first one gets rejected, I'll have this one in. I'd love to get a second opinion on the current 1300px version though, as you say it's borderline.

Thanks so much!
