A Little Help With Post Rejection

This late afternoon photo was rejected for "low conrast soft contrast personal." Any hints as to how to improve it?

Definitely need more shadows - black point is far from edge. Some selective sharpening (nose bottom, engine hoods, may be gears struts) will help also.

Improving the contrast will also help when sharpening.

Thanks very much for the feed back. I've been having problems with sharpening ever since I began using LR as my raw processor.

Remember if you're exporting your final image, under "Output Sharpening" check the box, select "Screen" in the first drop down menu and I always choose "High" in the second. That's usually the difference between a soft rejection and an accepted image.

This was rejected for motiv (horizontal stabilizer crop) and over sharpening. The line between over sharpening and soft is a constant struggle for me. Where is the over sharping evident? Also, any tips for detecting over sharpening? What I usually do is purposely over sharpen using USM and then reduce the sharpening amount until I think its right. Thanks, Bob

Nice shot! I would call the oversharpening borderline at worst. If I had to pick out somewhere it would be the red stripes and the front of the nacelles.

Seems like that should work fine. The key, I think, is that you sometimes need to sharpen selectively. I just scan for jaggy areas.

It looks maybe a little blurry, which can often lead to oversharpening to make it look sharp.

This one did not make the cut due to being over exposed and over sharpened. I compared it to my other shots that have been accepted and it appeared OK to me. Where is the over sharpening apparent?

I don't agree with overexposed. Maybe slightly, at the most. As for OS, can't help you there, I'm still training my eyes.
