Pre-screening: Airkas1

Thu Mar 12, 2015 8:36 pm

Hi all,

I recently bought a new computer and I have to get used to the editing on it. I had quite some rejections this week already, of which I've tried to improve a few and I also uploaded some new ones.

I'll start off with a rejection:

Rejected photo: https://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r....4354a6-ece_osl_21-02-15kj---2.jpg
Remark: "weak contrast, not enough quality for this size (it was 1600px), better smaller soft contrast personal"

Re-edited photo: https://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b....5595a6-ece_osl_21-02-15kj---3.jpg

Newly uploaded:

2) https://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b....4123cs_lam_grq_03-03-15kj---3.jpg
3) https://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b...2317.6314cs-drq_grq_07-03-15kj.jpg

I'll try to re-edit and post more photos after the weekend, but if anyone can alredy comment on the above it would be appreciated

Thanks!

-Kas

I strongly disagree with:

Quoting airkas1 (Thread starter):
not enough quality for this size

looks like it can be accepted at high res with a bit of improvements - contrast and selective sharpening.

Thanks! I thought the 1600px version wasn't so bad either, but I took the screener's advice and made it smaller for the second attempt. Also added more contrast and one more round of sharpening, so hopefully it's OK like this.

Hi all,

Had a photo rejected 3 months ago (sorry, link expired), but decided to give it another try. It was initially rejected for soft, oversharpened, motive and quality. Personal comment was "Can't see enough aircraft in the photo".

I kept the comment in mind when editing the photo and tried to brighten it a bit more, to show more of the wing. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Uploaded 2 sizes, just in case any flaws are less of an issue at a smaller size. Of course I will remove one (or both) from the queue if not up to scratch.

Hi Kas,

it is a wonderful shot and it takes skills to do it, but it won't work for airliners.

There is simply not enough aircraft visible and therefore it will surely get rejected for motive.
Also it seems soft / a little bit blurry to me.

Cant judge the quality, but motive looks fine for me. Thats the kind of photo I like. Compare with another (beautiful) shot accepted some time ago here, although it has the airport very small on the right side, the wing just can be imagined by the light on the top.

If someone else gives you a "ok" about quality, I would give it a try.

Certainly nothing wrong with trying and I like Kas' shot, too, but remember it was rejected for motive before.

The shot you linked is obviously an exception to the rule (I am surprised to see it), still that does not change the rules.
I am pretty sure you could find a very small number of exceptions to almost every rule, as screening is not done by machines.

Just my 2 cents... in the end it is a great shot!

First of all, I do appreciate you opinions a lot!

My main hope is that with the increased brightness of the current edit (the wing can now be seen better), the motive rejection of too little aircraft is void. I also added some local sharpness on the main buildings (the center district if you will), to make the photo less soft.

I know not every photo is the same, but the photo Thiago linked gives me a bit of confidence for my photo. However, I will have peace with any upcoming verdict. But I'm very curious as to whether my fixes actually worked, so I might just leave one of the versions in the queue to see the verdict.

You have a great shot that just needs a bit of work. 1600px does seem a little big for the quality in your original post. The contrast in the new edit seems a little heavy. The Hawker (from what I can tell on my laptop) is not level.

Hi Joshu,

Thank for the reply, but those photos are done with already
All 3 'new' photos were accepted and the re-edited EK B777 was accepted aswell. Weird(?) that those upload links still work. Never noticed before that they stay active for so long.

Could you perhaps offer some advice on the latest link (of the window view at night)?

Cheers,

Kas

Thanks to all who responding!
