Post Screening - The Whole Book

Hi All,

This one has got me really confused. The screener pretty much threw the whole book at this one. The rejection criteria was"

"A comment from the screener regarding this upload:
"pseudo hdr"

This image was made on a chamber of commerce day here in Florida, with the deep blue skies and great color we get here in the spring. Also, the aircraft was lit from below by the white roofs of a large office park below. All I did to the photo was to use curves to lighten the whole image. I can't see any grain in it either.

I guess so serious a rejection means It goes in the trash bin

Hello JASPC, I see some grain on the blue/purple top half of the aircraft, especially on the fuselage. You have a similar shot in the database and that one hasn't got it, I noticed. I might see it wrong though but I hope it's helpful. Nice photo.

Thanks so much Spompert. I can't see the noise myself. I'll have to look at the full res shot now. It is doubtful because this new Nikon D750 has zero noise all the way up to about ISO 1600 and this was shot at 200. Also, it's close to a full frame (75%) shot.

It does have that HDRish look. Ease up on the contrast (it looks a bit strong anyway), and that will help.

If it's still rejected for editing/HDR, you could email the original file to the head screeners (hopefully it's a RAW file...).

Thanks vikkyvik. Appreciate the input. I think it's a great photo but I wont appeal it. Too many strikes against it for whatever reason.

We get some incredible light here in Florida in the spring and it is quite unusual in other parts of the world (that's why the beach shots look so incredible). This shot is pretty much as it came out of the camera, and as it looked to my eyes. By the way the TIFF is a direct import to Lightroom from the RAW. I use DxO as a converter because Lightroom is not good at all on Nikon cameras. Understandable as Nikon RAWs are proprietary.

Vikkivyk asked so here is the raw file as a screen capture. If you look at the right hand side of the screen there are no adjustments whatsoever. Didn't touch it because it was at good as it gets - "as is". This is what has me so confused....

If it's as shot then the rejection is in question.

The histogram is way to the left. Try adding some exposure and reducing the contrast.
