Post-Screening - Blurry?

Sun Nov 15, 2015 3:47 am

Hi all,

https://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r..._t1446843174.7426000abav02227p.jpg

Had this photo rejected once for "blurry". The screener specified that the wing was out of focus. It actually looked a bit soft, so I sharpened it selectively, and, as I uploaded it again, I included the link to the un-resized un-sharpened crop of the wingtip:

http://chukcha63.users.photofile.ru/...to/chukcha63/1205058/109527118.jpg

Does it look out of focus?

Anyway, got it rejected again, this time for "blurry" and "soft". Appealed and included the link again. Appeal was rejected with a standard formula "Screener correct"

What do you guys think?

Cheers,
Andrei

Wing is out of focus and the nose is blurry. Looks like a fair screen to me.

Are you saying, this is out of focus?

The wingtip does look out of focus, or more likely in my view, suffering from lens softness near the edge of the frame. It also suffers from some pretty obvious fringing, which is why I think it may be edge-of-frame issues. The fringing is quite visible in your rejected shot - I'm a little surprised that wasn't included.

To me, the tail and the nose both look somewhat blurry in your edit.

That link doesn't work. But, if it was the photo I saw yesterday (close-up of the wingtip) it is *very* out of focus.

There is a world of difference between "blurry" and "lens softness". "Blurry" is not fixable, but softness can be sharpened and fixed on resizing.

Do you own a wide angle lens? Have a look at the images near the edjes, unresized. Somehow I dowt that yours will be much sharper than my crop at the link above.

Regardless of any comparison, if your image is objectively soft it won't make it.

As posted above, it looks like you're struggling with edge-of-frame softness or DoF issues (looks more like the former to me).

Cheers

The image isn't fixable.

They can appear very similar in a resized, edited image.

Extreme lens softness is really not fixable to A.net standards.

Yes, I own a wide-angle, not that it matters at all. If an image is that soft near the edge then I probably won't upload it here.

Problem solved.
