Pre-Screening EY A380

Hello!

We just received our Inaugural EY A380 @ BOM yesterday and i'd like to know if these photos are upto the mark

Sorry, it seems really dark (even for time of day) and has a touch of heat haze to it.

Thanks for the reply Joshua, are you referring to the second image or both?

Because if you see, its the jetwash which is creating the hh impression behind the engines as if you see the borders of the flap near the wing root - its clean.

Both images are too dark, I think. Both are also high in frame, and the tail at the bottom of the 2nd one is very unsightly.

The first is better with regard to HH/jetwash, but does seem soft.

Tail need to be cropped.

Which camera + lens you used for this ?

Right, so i've removed the second one. And re-edited the first one with slightly more selective sharpening & curves.

Not bad, seems a bit noisy to me but I am not on my screening comp right now.

Thanks Josh. I've looked at it thoroughly & given it a good NR besides the fact that its an ISO 100 image.

That's due to the jetwash of the engine as only that section has a slight effect. Thanks Kas & Joshua

The crop on the right is too tight. Looks fine otherwise (but if you can somehow manage to make the background lights on the right less bright that would be better).

Tough to tell if it's clipped or not, which basically means it's too tight.

I'd bring the brightness of the whole image down a bit. Can easily survive that, and I think it would look better.

It's also quite high in frame....

Centering is fine as is imho.

That brings us back to Len's centering thread.

To my eyes, centering the fuselage on a tall-tail airplane like a 73G or A380 looks way too high. There are certainly images with similar centering that would be rejected for hif.

I can desaturate it if it looks unnatural coz i only did vibrance by like 5. But, its the centered rejection that puzzles me.

Its hif or lif ?

I think we discussed this topic pretty well last week. The centering on this picture is subjective but ultimately the tall and thin tail will make it look high in frame when to me it really isn't. Move it down a few pixels and resubmit.

A message should be left with any centering rejection. But in this case it's safe to assume it's high in frame.
Saturation isn't too bad, but if you're going to re-edit anyway, then it could use a little less.

As noted, hif. Saturation isn't an issue to me.

However, the sky is almost completely blown out, and it looks soft or a little blurry, especially toward the nose. Those are bigger issues to me.

Also may want to check the leveling - looks like it could use a bit of CW to me.

Fair enough. I'm not on my editing computer at the moment, but I do recall thinking it looked a bit blurry.

The nose gear looks a bit blurry and maybe it's a case of 'OS to compensate'. But only you can know that, as you can see the original. The sky is too overexposed/blown out, but the grass also looks much brighter than usual ( I think). Perhaps you can reduce the brightness a little and see what that looks like. As for grain, maybe a slight amount, but passable for me. But maybe tweak that a little as well if you're going to attempt another edit.
