Note : Aerolineas Argentinas's (AR) last flight to Auckland. AR had serviced Sydney direct from Buenos Aires for few months, before air service was stopped.

Airport

AR did not have online checkin feature, Arriving at the airport on time, headed for check-in. I was not carrying much baggage for a few day trip to New Zealand.

After checkin, it was immigration and security, which was not busy at the time of the day.

Everyone deboarded the flight. Saw the crew again at the immigration.

Immigration was easy as I don't need visa for New Zealand. Was welcomed to NZ by the immigration offer and wished a pleasant stay.

Baggage collection didn't take long. I passed the quarantine without any issue.

Exiting

Went out to the car hire to pick the rental car. I had booked the hotel close to airport, took me 5 mins to get there.

Hope you enjoyed the trip. Thanks for reading.

Interesting TR. Very rare airline on this site (at least I have not seen many TRs of AR).

Cheers.

Nice report! Nice old times. This report should be from 2013 or 2014, isn't it? I've forgotten when the route was cancelled, and also when the last A342 left the fleet. AR now has about 5 A343, 7 A332, 16 B73G and 20 B738 (approx).

Thanks for the report. Threw me a bit to start with but then I realised it was from a few years ago.

I'd place a strong bet on 2012 ;)

Whiff from the past!

LV-ZRA is sitting engineless @ EZE waiting to be parted out. It was W/S in late 2014.

Thanks for the report!

That looks like a pleasant ride to AKL, and the photos of "the beach" next to the old SYD ATC Centre brought back great memories.

I'm guessing that the trip took place around late 2010 - mid 2012, since AR's last SYD-AKL A340 flight was on 6 July 2012. The Departures screens shown early in the post have UA codesharing with US on their flight to SFO, an agreement which ended in early 2014 with the AA-US merger. The pictured UA 744 has the new (current) livery, which debuted in late 2010. (Later, UA's service went from the 744 to 777 and now 789, *although substitutions have happened.)

I'm so glad you took your older photos and compiled them into a new report for us.... If you have more, please do give!

Warm regards,
Scottie

Yes, I didn't find many reviews of this aircraft.

Been lucky to fly during 80's and 90's. I have photos from 1998 onwards. I'll post trip reports over time. Thanks.

Nice report. It's fun to do the Time Warp with A340 travels.

I for one think the new Aerolineas scheme is one of the best out there. It's a pity that none of the -200s got a makeover prior to retirement.

Nice report!

Does not look like the most extravagant of flights... No IFE and a pretty small meal, considering its a 3hr flight!
That said, pretty unique TR, thanks for sharing!

Thanks, very few 340's flying around. Seats have more spacing and comfortable than many modern jets.

The blue looks cool on the AR birds specially the 340's.

AR is a functional airline.

Too many ME3 trip reports have distorted the purpose of flying.

Lack of IFE was compensated by better customer service. Meal portions were small due to departure and arrival times.

Thanks for your comment.

To add to the vintage flavor of this TR, I can confirm that ZRA is being parted out at EZE.

LV-ZRA made its first flight on 03mar95 with the F-WWJP test registration and on 04apr95 was delivered to Cathay Pacific with the registration VR-HMU, transferred on March 22 1997 to Phillipine Airlines with the F-OHPI registration.

Delivered on 12 August 1999 to Aerolineas Argentinas, arrived in Ezeiza the following day from Bordeaux, under the command of AR's Captain Martin Krijger.

Its last commercial service was on 02mar2014, flight AR1141 Roma (Fiumicino) - Ezeiza, arriving at 8:59 local time, from that moment it remained stored until finally being parted out; ZRA had a total activity of 67,563 hours and 8,335 cycles.

It takes me back,
I used to handle AR at AKL and knew the AR team socially as well as professionally. I also flew all 4 of the A342s in their fleet at one time or another in a mix of Y and J class. I flew ZRA just once EZE-AKL back in 2005. I flew ZPX 4x AKL-EZE-AKL, AKL-SYD-AKL, ZPO once AKL-EZE and ZPJ once EZE-IGR. All flights were 05-06.

I enjoyed my flying on AR, back in those days they were happy to let the window shades open as you flew near Antarctica by night with the most amazing starscapes from the clear undisturbed polar air (literally the only plane that part of the world for 10000km.)
Flown to 147 Airports in 62 Countries on 83 Operators and counting. Wanderlust is like Syphilis, once you have the itch it's too late for treatment.
