Video Report British Airways BA84 - Vancouver to London - Club World - Airbus 380-800 Background
Hello A'netters. Hope you are all well.
This is the fifth and final installment of our trip across Canada. The previous installments are below:Part 4 - Canadian Escapades - Edmonton to Vancouver - WestJet B737-800 Part 3 - Canadian Escapades - Toronto to Calgary - Air Canada B767-300ERPart 2 - Canadian Escapades - Quebec to Toronto - WestJet Encore Dash8 Q400Part 1 - Canadian Escapades - London to Montreal - BA 787-8
We used the companion voucher for our flight Montreal and return from Vancouver. Montreal in WT and return on CW.
Called the Executive club number and the agent I spoke to could not be any more helpful - she was excellent!
I even gave her a thumbs up on the BA Thank you page. Hopefully it gets recognised.
Checking flight details in February, I noticed that the return flight BA84 from Vancouver had an equipment change - to an A380
Would get to try out A380 on the upper deck, looking forward to it. This means that I would miss being on the upper deck of a 747. Ah well, we can't win everything. #1stworldproblems
Thanks for Gcmaps for the below illustration:

My Log book: 23rd Flight on BA/ 3rd flight on Airbus 380-800/ 135th Total overall flight
Day before flight, checked in online. Was excited that the aircraft had been changed to an A380 and it was the first day of the change. Ideally wanted an upper deck window seat. But only a lower deck window was available. Weighing in my priority, I selected an upper deck middle seat hoping to sleep a bit. From past experiences that seems to be the best option for a nap.
Still hoping to get an upper deck window at the airport.
On the day of the flight, we reached the airport with around 4 hours to spare. Given that it was the first A380 service for the year, they had luckily opened the check in desk at the exact same time. That was good for us, since we had some shopping to do and also could spend some time at the Lounge.

BA Check in desks
The check in agent was quite chatty and informed us that the BA lounge was just above the gate BA uses (A separate BA lounge) and that it was not very good. If we had access to the Premium Plaza lounge he suggested we use that. Not much in terms of a vote of confidence there. Unfortunately, the flight was full, so we had to be content with our seats chosen the previous day.
Check in and bags dropped, it was time to head towards security. Done in 10 minutes and we were at the duty free area. Wife had some shopping so I continued to walk around shooting some videos/photos. Another good airport to spot aircrafts.
By the time we finished shopping and walked around, we reached the lounge above gate D64, almost 2 hours before boarding. Given it was a full flight and that too an A380, the lounge were not allowing anyone who were not travelling CW or First. A gentlemen in front of me was not let in as he was in WTP with a Silver membership card.

The lounge was of decent size. Had brilliant views of the tarmac, perfect for landing and take-off videos. The views and angle was so good, that it made the A380 look graceful upon landing
BA Lounge (Above Gate 64)
The service at the lounge was very good. They had 2 charming young ladies who were very attentive and hosted us well. We were handed a glass of water as soon as we sat down and was informed of the food items available for the evening.
More info on the food and drinks in the pictures below.
Decent food offering in the Lounge. No warm food though (Except for a 3 bean soup)
Pre-gaming before the flight
On the whole it was a pretty decent lounge, nothing special, but adequate. I would rather have a One World lounge, or the likes, which could also cater to some hot food. Not having any warm food for a premium lounge is probably a deal breaker.

I do not remember any announcements in the lounge, but given we were all on the same flight, as people started to walk towards the gate we proceeded.
Boarding was orderly and we were one of the first ones to board the aircraft.
Time to board
Given that I have a soft spot for the upper deck of the B747, I must admit that the upper deck front cabin of the BA A380 does look inviting and spacious. It was quite niche and I liked the 2-3-2 ying yang seating. The middle seat I had, was perfect for sleeping, as I later found out.
Another party piece is the super large toilets on the upper deck of the A380. Do the lower deck have them too, for CW and First? Easily the largest I've been on.
During boarding, the pre-boarding drinks round commenced. Had the champagne to kick start the trip back.
First views of Upper deck Club World on the BA A380-800. Stylish yet conservative. I liked the small cabin up front.

As we pushed back, I was quite happy with my seat selection. I was almost certain to sleep well. The upper deck of the A380 is indeed super quiet. It rocked a bit during take-off and nothing more, just a slight bump. No matter how it looks from the outside, I don’t think there is any better place 40K feet in the air than an A380 upper deck, in the front (Except for the upper deck of the 747 off course
Soon after take-off, predinner drinks got served. I had the bucks fizz. Settled in for a movie during which the dinner was served.
Relaxing after take off
Heard good reiews of the movie, but a very typical Bollywood over dramtic movie. Watched half and could take no more of it
Had one of their reds during dinner and it went well with the meal.
Starters - Beet and goats cheese salad - was actually very good.
WAIT, am i on the wrong flight???
Main - Asian style hoisin duck noodles (Cold dish). This was just alright. Probably a wrong choice. My wife chose the bison and it looked much better.
Salted caramel ice cream - this hit the right spot.
Soon after dinner, around 2.5 hours into the flight, I tried to stay awake watching a movie, but the food, combined with the boring movie and the super quiet interiors, meant that there was no way to escape some siesta.
Generous sized toilets on the upper deck. Is it similar in the lower deck too??
I think I must've slept for around 4.5 hours. I was woken up when the breakfast was being served, some 90 minutes from landing.
Had a sumptuous breakfast, freshened up and it was time to land.
5 hours siesta, it was time for breakfast
We gently landed into Heathrow and quite quickly parked by our gates at T3.
Disembarkation, immigration and baggage was quite quick and we were out of the airport in less than 30 minutes.

Bags collection Verdict
The upper deck of the A380, in club world is a great place to be. I like the coffin design and like the suite style space we get - the personal space we get.
The lounge in Vancouver was decent, and no more.
Service on this leg was alright. Nothing special. They all just did their job. The food was very good, entertainment was above average too.
On the whole, a strong product offering by BA on this route. Had a very good flight and it ticked all the boxes for us.
This is the last and edition of this series. It has been an #epic trip and can't wait to get back to Canada. Lovely country, and wonderful people.
We do not have any trips planned in the near future, but hope to get something done.
Until then keep the trip reports coming, and happy and safe flying, Adios! Sights and sounds around Vancouver
