Thanks for the clarification.
"" In this case, a user bumped your thread (more than a year old) with a comment unrelated to your trip report or aviation" -> So I reckon one of the moderators has reviewed this comment and deemed to be either spam or similar?
What if a user did want to comment about the report? How would he/she go about that, if the report is older than 6 months old?
It's up to our discretion as to whether we let the comment stand. Because the Trip Reports Forum works a bit differently than the others, I tend to err on the side of allowing comments to somewhat older reports, assuming it's some sort of constructive comment. It depends on a few factors for me (how long the trip report was inactive, if the comment is worthy of bumping the thread, if it's a report worthy of being bumped, etc.), but I don't know what sort of process the other moderators use to evaluate these things.
Users can always email us at [email protected]
asking to reply to an old thread, and that's the surest bet for a yes/no beforehand. We certainly don't take a "do not post to old threads" stance, we just want to make sure the bump is in the best interest of those who read the forum. I realize that's fairly subjective, but I suppose that's why we're here.
