Replacing Beer Sheva! El Al's new 787 demonstration flight in Y+

Hello,

Beer Sheva, Israel's 6th largest city and the largest in the Negev desert is the name of an El Al B747-400, 4X-ELC, built in 1995. I had a great long flight on it back in 2002, LAX-YYZ-TLV. As LY's older 747s been replaced by new 787s names are also moved from older places to new, so was the case of Beer Sheva.

As 744-ELC is due to retire this October, El Al 7th (Sheva in Hebrew means 7) 787 is getting its name, therefore after its delivery the airline decided to make a special flight over Israel with children from the city, so as some players from it's soccer team – Israel's champion for 3 years in a row. I was lucky enough to join the ride and happy to share this report with you.

We started at the new domestic departure lounge at TLV's Terminal 1, first time I am there:

We were bussed to see this beautiful 1-week-old Dreamliner:

Of course, I toured business class first, unfortunately I wasn't seated there for this flight. After flying Edelweiss A340 business class just few days before on long flight, I was eager to try El Al's new seat. I am sure LY has more legroom than WK, but its missing the massage function:

And Economy class:

As you can see, every seat had a free red shirt souvenir from the flight. Safety video was played, and off we go via runway 26:

With no window seat, I had to wait until seat belt sign was off before I could take some pictures: Beautiful wing:

After about 40 minutes in the air, we had to sit down for landing yet I still had the time to watch full episode of family guy before exiting the airplane. In total we were 1:05 hours in the air:

It was very nice flight. I can't wait to try El Al's new business class on a real long haul flight, hopefully sometime soon. Thx for reading, comments are always welcome.
