Hello A'netters. So, it is the May bank holiday and we had a spare Avios Upgrade voucher to use. I did not have much holidays to take and hence wanted to go to a place, not too far, we haven't been to and have convenient timings of flights that we could use the voucher with.
It didn’t take us too long to realise, living in the UK for over 13 years, we have never visited the Republic of Ireland! Sacrilege! It was time to correct it.
Called the Avios helpdesk to sort out one of the legs of the trip. Looking at the various options given to me, we decided to use the voucher on the onward leg to Dublin from London Heathrow for a princely sum of 9000 Avios points + £50 for taxes for 2 tickets on Club Europe. Result!
For our return, we plan to spend some time around Galway; hence Shannon seemed to be a good option to get back to London from. Aer Lingus had a very good option from Shannon in the evening. A quick scan on Aer Lingus website and 10 minutes later, flights booked through Aer Lingus website. Was easy to navigate and intuitive.

Day before travel, OCI was seamless as usual and the usual BA process. Looked like a full cabin with only 16 club Europe seating. Only 2 aisle seats available. Shall try my luck at the airport.
Drive to the airport was a bit tedious probably due to the bank holidays. Took an hour and 20 minutes as compared to around 50 minutes on a good day.
We didn't use the club world check in counters instead used the self-check in desks as it was relatively quieter and easy to do.
London Heathrow T5
Used the self-check in instead of the Business class check in counters as this was quicker and easy to use. Only drawback is the PRIORITY tags do not get attached, instead it is printed. Not effective as it took a while to get our bags, later on in Dublin.
Fast track security worked well and was airside in 15 minutes.
Decided to use the north lounge this time as our departing gates was from A gates.
Quite similar to the south lounge. Busy, crowded, below average food albeit good drinks selection. The layout of the lounge is a bit weird as the main area gets very busy, yet if you walk over to the far end, near the work stations it feels a lot quieter.

We left the lounge with 30 minutes to spare and was on board by 1815.
A typical domestic setup on this A321 with 8 seats in club Europe, with the middle seats blocked off and the rest of the seats in euro traveller.
A full flight to Dublin this evening in preparation for the bank holidays. Albeit they were some passengers who didn't make the flight which meant that there were a couple of seats available in club Europe. We moved to 2A and C which was ideal for us.

Boarding completed at 1830. But due to traffic, was asked to wait for 10 minutes by the ATC.
Quite a busy time at Heathrow as we taxied for around 35 minutes before being airborne.
Crew sprang into action as soon as cruising altitude of 34000 feet was attained. The meal on this sector was well presented and tasted wonderful. And went well with a spicy bloody Mary.

BA have a very strong soft product. If only their hard product could be updated. A Wi-Fi streaming entertainment wouldn't have gone amiss. It's a shame that BA aren't even considering it in the near future.

3 days later, it was time to head back to London.
Day before flight, online check in was quick and easy to use. Seat selection was possible albeit, there were still the exit rows and front row seats that were chargeable. Nevertheless managed to bag a window and middle seat for our trip to London.
Day of the flight, drive to the airport was seamless and arrived on time. dropped the rental car off and reached the departure terminal by 1540.

What are these supposed to be?
Bag drop and security was super quick and pain free. The check in assistant was friendly and very chatty. Shannon airport looks very good and stylish and was a breeze to traverse.
Airside by 5 PM with an hour to shop and have a quick meal. The duty free is surprisingly good and exhaustive for an airport of this size. Food options were decent enough and affordable for an airport.

Boarding commenced at 1650 with boarding complete by 1705. A full flight today to Heathrow with a flight time of 55 minutes announced.
They were closely monitoring the hand luggage weight at the desk and anything above the 8 kilo limit was asked to be transferred to the hold luggage, free of charge. Once again the agents at the desk were charming, courteous and approachable.

EI-DVL -> This aircraft keeps going back and forth to London from Shannon, three times a day. It should be able to fly on its own, by now

We were airborne by 1725 and proceeded eastwards towards England.

The next 45 minutes was quick since I slept off. Must've been a comfortable ride as the next thing I knew we were over the city of London.
Landed 30 minutes ahead of schedule and out of the airport by 1845. Wow!

A really good flight from Aer Lingus. Ahead of time flights, friendly ground staff and cabin crew, comfortable seating and a price that doesn't break the bank balance. It was perfect for us and hope to fly Aer Lingus on their longer haul flights in the future.
Hope you like this short bank holiday weekend break trip report. It would be a while before my next report since I do not have any flights booked, as of yet! I think this is probably the first time in the last 10 years I have no active bookings
