PHX-JFK-PHX DL E175 A332 & A320/21

Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:48 pm

I had a 3 day weekend in January, and had plans to go to NY for the weekend. I was originally supposed to fly on a DL 717 and 757-200 through SEA in the morning. I needed to switch to a redeye, so I ended up on a E175 and A330-200 through LAX. The new concourse in T3 had opened about 10 days prior. I had flown into PHX the night before they opened the new T3N, so this was my first time flying out of the new concourse. I had seen it under construction for a long time, so I got to the airport a little earlier to check it out

Once everyone boarded, we pushed back 5 minutes ahead of schedule and the engines were started shortly after. It was a quick taxi to 25R and we took of for LAX at 7:38pm. It was a smooth climb up to 34,000 ft. The flight attendants started a service, however once we entered California it started to get bumpy. The pilots asked the flight attendants to be seated. The turbulence continued through the entire descent into southern California. We landed on runway 25L at 7:41 pm and taxied around to the north side of the airport, parking at gate 33B at 7:48pm.

There was some weather in NY, and my plane left JFK almost an hour and a half late. My flight to JFK was delayed about 30 minutes. After getting some dinner and walking around the terminal, I went to my gate until they started boarding. It was a full flight to NY tonight and the gate agents made multiple announcements about checking bags, and only boarding when your zone was called because they were trying to get this flight out

We ended up pushing back about 35 minutes late. The engines were quickly started and we had a quick taxi to 24L were number 2 for takeoff behind an Interjet A320 to MEX. We took off at 11:45pm, and climbed out over the water before turning east and heading towards northern Arizona. As we climbed to our cruising altitude of 29,000 ft, we hit the same turbulence that we did on the way in. The CA made an announcement that it should continue most of the way until we were out of California. The FA’s were seated for about the first 40 minutes of the flight. After this they did a quick service. The lights were then turned down, and most of the people on the plane went to sleep as we flew east over Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky before joining the CAMRN4 arrival into JFK over eastern Virginia.

After a cold few days in NY, it was time to head back to warmer weather in PHX. I was originally taking a WestJet 737-600 from LGA-YYZ, Delta A320 YYZ-SLC and an E175 from SLC-PHX. However due to weather in NY, at the last minute I changed to an A320 from JFK-MSP, and an A321 from MSP-PHX. The day of departure it actually turned out to be a nice sunny, but freezing cold day. My flight was not scheduled to depart until the afternoon, so after checking out of my hotel I headed to JFK. I got to the airport with plenty of time to kill before my 4pm flight. Boarding began about 30 minutes before departure. It was a busy afternoon at JFK. Soon after we started taxing the CA said it would be a long taxi as there were about 15-20 planes ahead of us. We taxied around to taxiway G, crossed 22R and then took Z to 31L. After about a 30 minute taxi we were rolling down 31L. After the standard left turn off of 31L, we climbed up to 34,000 ft and flew northwest as the sun started to set.

This flight was not full, and the middle seat was empty. The plane arrived late from DCA, so we were delayed about 30 minutes. Once every had boarded we pushed back, and quickly taxied to 12R. After takeoff we climbed through a couple layers before leveling off at 32,000ft. It was a smooth flight down to PHX. We stayed a little to the west, due to turbulence over southern Colorado and New Mexico. We started our descent at 10:05pm, touching down on runway 26 at 10:32pm. We arrived at gate F4 a few minutes later.
